Re: usa nationals
What's with all the Walkovers in the 3rd place box-offs???
Re: usa nationals
I left Fri am, but having talked to a few boxers before I left, they weren't exactly pumped up for the box offs. I wouldn't be surprised if a bunch of the boxers didn't bother to show up for weigh ins.
That's my guess on the walkovers.

Re: usa nationals
That's a shame that they aren't better than that to leave because the don't feel like boxing anymore, if USAB had the guts they would pull their books for 6 months and teach them better sportsmanship.

A bunch of sore losers. What bad sportsmanship. Yes some left and one was told to shave and he refused to go shave and come back for weigh in. One of the sore losers was my own son Zeddie. He felt like it would be embarassing to fight for third place. It was like 3rd place is unacceptable. I told him that I would be on the next plane to Denver to show him what embarassing was. I taught him better than that. Now he is calling me happy that they got their schedules for training camps and a dual with Great Brittain. I understand that Zeddie is still 16, but grow up. You cant win them all. As for all the other young men, appreciate how far you have gotten. There were some that didnt make it out of the states. Look at the bigger picture.
Re: usa nationals
He was DQ'd the night before therefore pulled from the tournament.

My best guess is he did something with an official's daughter, now.

Night before was vs. Brandt. Should the box-off be listed as a walkover then? It doesn't seem correct to list it as a DQ against a boxer if he wasn't allowed to box.toddh5220 wrote:He was DQ'd the night before therefore pulled from the tournament.

Re: usa nationals
That's great that he did go because you don't want to burn any bridges and Zeddie has always represented himself well. You don't need to give anyone a reason to think about anything but your boxing these days. I would have done the same thing.ZMOMMI wrote:Slythex wrote:I left Fri am, but having talked to a few boxers before I left, they weren't exactly pumped up for the box offs. Re: usa nationals
You can be 16 at the start of entering certain advancing tournaments like the USA Nationals as long as you will be 17 by August 29th. We have had a few JO boxers go very far in their first year of open competition and some of them entered the tourney at 16 like Zeddie. Gary Russell won the National GG and the USA Nationals before his 17th birthday. Hylon Williams lost to Raynell for the Olympic spot by 2pts. one month after turning 17, so he started his bid for Beijing as a 16 year old as well. In fact, when Hylon signed with Golden Boy in Dec of 2007, he was 5 months past his 17th birthday. We have a lot of great boxers just coming into the Sr. ranks with another crop of JOs waiting in the wings.kidneypunch wrote:16 yr olds in open division?

Way to go ZMOMMI!!! I laughed thinking about you telling Zeddie that you would show him what embarassing really is. Great lesson for your son. I'm glad that all the region 5 guys made the right decision.
