Oxnard PAL vs. National PAL
So our gym received an invitation to the Oxnard PAL tournament which will be held in July. I know that the National PAL has been held in Oxnard in the past but it was during Sept during the school year. I'm not in the loop, but it seems like since the National PAL has been moved to San Antonio in October. I'm not going to either, but I'm just curious to which one is going to be more well attended. . .Will the boxers/coaches that have gone to Oxnard in the past just stay at that one and
Somebody clear this up, because I know I'm not the only one who wants to understand.

Only the National PAL is a tournament that can get you to the USAs, so I would guess the Oxnard Tournament will NOT advance you to the USA Championships. Anyone?kidneypunch wrote:ahh! it is true

Not the National PAL, but it seems that Oxnard is trying to take advantage of the name recognition. We received a postcard at our gym in Maryland.kidneypunch wrote:WHAT???

Re: Oxnard PAL vs. National PAL
The Oxnard PAL has held both the California PAL tourney(in July) and the National PAL tourney(in September or October),but this year the National PAL will be held in San Antonio and the California PAL will be a sponser of the Oxnard PAL National tourney, boxers will not earn points for rankings in this tourney. The following week(July 13-18)will be the Desert Showdown tourney, which I highly recommend.Ralph Romero runs this great tourney in Indio,Ca. which is just north of Palm Springs,it's a highly attended tourney

It's been really hard to get info on past Desert Showdowns. I was interested but wanted to see who has competed in the past. Can't find anything.415BOXING wrote:The Oxnard PAL has held both the California PAL tourney(in July) and the National PAL tourney(in September or October),but this year the National PAL will be held in San Antonio and the California PAL will be a sponser of the Oxnard PAL National tourney, boxers will not earn points for rankings in this tourney. The following week(July 13-18)will be the Desert Showdown tourney, which I highly recommend.Ralph Romero runs this great tourney in Indio,Ca. which is just north of Palm Springs,it's a highly attended tourney

The Oxnard PAL tournament is NOT a ranking tournament. The National PAL tournament is.the PAL tourny isn't a ranking tournament?
No. The National PAL is an invitational tournament. There is no qualifying process. You just have to be a U.S. citizen with at least 5 scored bouts in your passbook. There is no novice division. And You have to fight in oxnard to qualify for the National Pal right?

Is the National PAL tournament in Texas open to all boxers or just OPEN boxers?
Re: Oxnard PAL vs. National PAL
Just open. No novice. The information, including entry forms, is posted on the PAL web site: www.nationalpal.org. This is the first qualifying tournament to get a slot into the Olympic Trial. Is the National PAL tournament in Texas open to all boxers or just OPEN boxers?
