For 165lbs. bout, they just announced that Jessie Hart is still receiving pts and silver medal because it was a DQ on a non-harm foul. They just gave Jessie his medal and announced that even though he was DQ'd, this was the ruling.

He hired a lawyer and then went to arbitration - it was overruled. Lucky he had the money and ability to fight it that quickly. They delayed the 201+ semis until yesterday because of the arbitration.kidneypunch wrote:michael hunter was DQ'd wasnt he?

Hunter vs Torres fight of the night so far. They are going after each other. Hunter up 11pts. going into last round. Hunter goes to the corner and kicks the stool out of the corner. lol. He's ready. Torres looks gassed but still game.
Last round will be a war.

Hunter wins 31-12. He wasn't going to leave any questions.
Re: usa nationals
Definitely congrats, Dennis, on Jordan's win. I don't understand, however, how Kisner got to the finals. Both hands way down, telegraphing one punch at a time - pro style.

Re: usa nationals
He won 5-0 paper score and 12-1, but his fights are usually low scoring. It's hard to score against a heavyweight that moves like a middleweight, especially when you're not used to it. I think that Jordan outworked him and took advantage of Nick backing straight out after is combos.boxmel wrote:Definitely congrats, Dennis, on Jordan's win. They call him "Slick Nick" for good reason. We have seen him box a bunch of times and knew what to expect. Jordan was prepared to handle it if Nick ran, if Nick stood his ground or if Nick got aggressive. Nick does have quick hands and feet as does Jordan. Nick is also awkward which gives most opponents fits.
Jordan just won his 100th bout.

Re: usa nationals
Let's say that you get to the finals of a national rankings tournament, meaning that you should get pts for that even if you lose. Pts that are added up for the USAB quarterly rankings.PHILLYSTEVE wrote:what do you mean jessie hart still gets his points?
If you are DQ'd for a harm foul like a low blow(s), you get zero pts.
Jessie was DQ'd in the finals for a non-harm foul, so he gets the pts attached with the silver medal at the US Nationals. Jessie Hart will get an addl 400 pts for the silver.

No. 1st and 2nd get $1000 and $500 per month for the next year. USA Boxing plans on adding more ranking tournaments and there was talk about the Ringside Tournament becoming a ranking tournament, but I haven't heard anything else.PHILLYSTEVE wrote:DOES 1ST, 2ND, AND 3RD PLACE IN THE RANKINGS, GET PAID? Re: usa nationals
ONLY if they don't allow foreign boxers to compete.and there was talk about the Ringside Tournament becoming a ranking tournament
Next ranking tournament is the National PAL in San Antonio in October.

Hmmm. . . .decisions, decisions. Don't let the 100 or so foreign boxers compete and drop the "World" off the moniker or become a ranking tournament and try to attract more of the elite boxers to come. JB could always not let the foreign boxers compete in just the open categories right? JOs and Masters could still have foreign boxers, right?boxmel wrote:ONLY if they don't allow foreign boxers to compete.and there was talk about the Ringside Tournament becoming a ranking tournament
I don't think dropping the foreign boxers but keeping the name "World" would fly so well.
Mel, do you know what is the timeframe for announcing if it is a ranking tournament? Also, how feasible is it really for USAB to add "more and more ranking tournaments during the year"? What other tournaments could they make a ranking tourney? The number of days would have to be increased wouldn't it? I would think a "ranking tournament" could have split weight divisions and multiple champions. . .

Thats great. Congratulations to everyone involved.

Ringside is NOT a recognized "World" tournament.Don't let the 100 or so foreign boxers compete and drop the "World" off the moniker
or become a ranking tournament and try to attract more of the elite boxers to come.
I think Ringside gets its fair share of elite boxers every year. I don't know how many more would come if they were officially ranked. And I'm sure that tournament is being considered because JB is on the BOD.
JOs and novice could include foreign. Masters, no - because we are the only country who registers boxers over 35 and foreign Masters would have to have an AIBA passbook in order to participate.JB could always not let the foreign boxers compete in just the open categories right? JOs and Masters could still have foreign boxers, right?
Sure wouldn't. 8)I don't think dropping the foreign boxers but keeping the name "World" would fly so well.
Probably whenever the BOD meets and makes the decision.Mel, do you know what is the timeframe for announcing if it is a ranking tournament?
I think it would be a total glut and totally screw up the rankings. How many boxers can box in tournaments all year? How many can take off work or school to participate? How many have the money to pay their own way? Makes no sense to me.Also, how feasible is it really for USAB to add "more and more ranking tournaments during the year"?
What other tournaments could they make a ranking tourney?
No clue.
No. Any ranking tournament would follow the same schedule as any other tournament - 4 or 5 days max. Multiple champions would only muddy the rankings. The number of days would have to be increased wouldn't it? I would think a "ranking tournament" could have split weight divisions and multiple champions. . .

D.C. - I think it would be great if Ringside were to become a rankng tournament.. Every chance our kids get to compete on a national level, ESPECIALLY on a computer would only help our boxers.. It would really help young J.O. boxers, and novice boxers transitioning into the open division. Ringside is in August where school would not be an issue (unlike National PAL in October). Kansas City is a great central location.. Are you bringing any guys to Augusta for their tournment this month?
Dennis - congratulations again.

We're just going to start gearing up for Ringside now. I agree about the Ringside and I'm all for attracting the best boxers out there. I would even love it if they did computer scoring for all of the boxers to get the youngsters ready early. I'm just not sure that you can just make the switch with officials that have no experience in computer scoring. Not sure how I feel on that part of it.atlanta coach wrote:D.C. - I think it would be great if Ringside were to become a rankng tournament..
