Chuck Gardner - Chuck Wepner

Post by Guest »

I've heard a rumour that Bruno fought Wepner in Cannes in 1997, not Gardner. Anybody know more about this ?

Chuck Gardner

Post by phil »

A left jab was all that was needed I think.

Actually Chuck Wepner would hav given a harder fight...or Chuck Steak even.

Gardner fought after this as well did he not (can't remember his record on boxrec).

Hi everyone, it was me who posted the original topic here.

Apparently Gardner retired after the Bruno fight, and didn't fight again for five and a half years. During that time, Wepner was thrown in the slammer for dealing coke; he got five years. Gardner's retirement, and Wepner's sentence, coincide. A few months after Wepner was released, Gardner makes a comeback. Mike Evans stopped him, I think.

I have got pictures of both in the mid-late eighties, and the resemblance is uncanny.

Hey Guys - The last time I saw Chuck was two years ago at a beach club
in Elberon/Deal area. I was the guy in charge of taking care of the place.
I was introduced to him but already new of him for many years. I asked
him if he was coming back dow to the club because I still had the program
when he fought Scott Frank for the NJ Heavyweight Championship. I was
on the undercard and had a better night than Chuck. I wanted him to autograpgh the program 20+ years later, but unfortunately never saw him
again. I still have the program.

Best Regards,

Dan
