Well I was wrong about him being a slow starter and maybe losing the first round!! Khan threw some impressive big hits. stopping the korean in the opening round. first stoppage of the game. Well done young Mr Khan. Tremendous performance. Bronze medal at the very least. apparently hes now the youngest british fighter ever to win an olympic medal. isnt it good theres something positive happening on terrestial tv for british boxing...

It was a spectacular performance. Good news is that he's fought less rounds than his Kazak opponent on friday which should be telling.

Yep, agree with it all - I'm well and truly converted now. One thing I must say that will put a dampener on things, that South Korean looked very poor at times - his balance was like a novice standing so square on. How was he in the quarters is just beyond me, surely there are some better fighters than him not competing - something must be done about the system.

Great power from Khan though. The Khazak fighter looked okay and at least looks worthy of a semi final berth, but I favour Khan strongly.

That fight was coooooool. 23 seconds before the round finished. He could have agood future if he goes professional after the oylmpics. Isn't his dream to get the gold like Muhammed ali did in the 60's.

Indeed a great result for Khan and British Boxing, unless he gets KO'd in his next fight he will no doubt be under great pressure to turn Pro after Athens.

Looking forward to seeing him fight again Friday.

The Korean never looked at all in any trouble in all his fights before that, I thought he was kind of an Injin Chi clone. Just marching foward thinking he's invincible, he came to the ring with a big smile on his face. You don't usually fight like that unless you have confidence in your chin. Perfect punch, he just drawed him foward then took a step back and nailed him right in the chin. A bit like the way Freitas nailed Barrios in the 11th in their fight.

Well as I said before the fight:

He does get better as he gets into is stride but keep it in perspective, he was only trailing in the first round of the second bout by 1 point, hardly a catastrophe. However, he cannot beat Super Mario I'm afraid. Silver will do nicely thank u. No shame in losing to such a champ.

As for sticking with the amateurs and defending a title...... u must be joking, national pride and prestige is one thing but money in ya back pocket is something else. Wake up!

Brilliant win. First near knockout I've seen in this Olympics so far, and it's from a 17 year old!
Khan looks to have it all: the skills, speed, chin, big punch and a winner's mentality. The world is his oyster.

The Korean was a bit crude, but he was throwing bombs - he caught Khan with what looked a very hard right hand, but he took it well.

He looks to be this years silver medalist at least - surely he can't beat the Cuban? He says he will though.....

After their last fights, I said I thought Khan could score the elusive stoppage of this tournament.

I should be wearing a big grin now( I am not often right..ask the wife) but I’m gutted because I missed it, been afternoons this week so I set the tape for 6pm for eurosport and as far as I know they did not show it.
He truly is a special talent.

Brilliant performance. I think it looks good for Friday aswell as the Khazak looked pretty spent at the end of his four rounds whereas Khan had a relatively easy win.

I'd love to see him fight Kindelan sunday that would be a treat.

Off-topic a little I know, but does anyone know when the Kazakh dude a division above Khan is fighting today; I saw him on Sunday destroying a Ukrainian and he looked shit-hot, balance, power, BODYPUNCHING (which I thought had been outlawed or something in the amateurs)... Looked a great bet to do some damage as a pro...

Thank you. By the by, that was actually a reference to the rarity of seeing an amateur actually DIG like that to the body. I was aware of the rule. The Kazakh guy (kazakhstani? Whatever) really loaded up on them though, kind of Tommy Hearns -esque (y'know, whipping them in).

You certainly dont see many of them using them and its ridiculous they dont score. The scoring system is diabolical.

one thing ive noticed about this years tourney is that there are more body shots and they are being scored. mkaes a nice change. i always used to love going to the body. a much maligned and often overlooked part of the game.

Yes, I've noticed that as well, they must have had a moritorium on that, because at the previous olympics they seemed to be totally overlooked. I wonder if that is one of the reasons that bodywork seems to be a dying art in the pro game. Many fighters these days just don't punch to the body at all, because they fear I think that their shots won't score. Admittedly it can often be harder to adjudge if a body shot lands or not as the shot can be obscured by the body being turned or the elbows getting in the line of sight.
