America media tour for SN top fighters

allegedly is planning to blitz America in the autumn and take his four highest-profile fighters to the US in order to wow the media.

WBO super-middleweight champion Joe Calzaghe, WBU light-welterweight king Ricky Hatton, WBO featherweight champion Scott Harrison and Mike Tyson conqueror Danny Williams could all be on the plane.

?We took Joe to America a few years ago, but that was on the request ? quite rightly ? of Showtime,? he explained.

?Now I want to be more pro-active and take my best fighters out there to meet everybody.

?I want to explain to the press that we aren?t ducking fights, that we aren?t hiding over here in the UK and we do want to fight the biggest names.?

just a media tour? i dont think the americans will think you are not ducking fighters by just coming over to america to do a press tour.

it depends on the opponents and if this is a one off thing.

I think it could be good, you got 2 unbeaten British fighters going to prove they are as good as they are made out to be and Williams going out to show he is a top contender and the Tyson fight was not lucky.

Now though is the time for them to prove themselves, no tune up and put on a good showcase fight, go out there and prove you can beat top lvl opponents, none of those British fighters need to wait any longer for top fights.

Who should the opponents be?

How about scrapping this unnecessary expense and using the money to bring over some decent opponents? Ridiculous.

what a load of shit....

might be a better idea if uncle frank planned a UK bitz of his four 'highest profile stars' maybe then the average punter in the street would take an interest and we'd stop being such a minority sport, something that warren is in no small part accountable for.

as it stands right now warren has a fantastic chance to raise the profiles of bitish fighters. we've got at the very least a bronze olympic medlist who is 17. over 6 million apparently tuned in to watch his fight. a young guy no-one had ever really heard of prior to the olympics and around 105 of the country tuned in to watch him fight. when did that ever happen to amateur boxing before.

khans endevours at the olympics have shown that there is an interest in boxing in this country... so what does warren do... fucks off to america to raise the profile there. good one frank.

perhaps if he had made better fights against good quality opponenets he could at theis very moment be saving himself the airfare.

imaging having to take guys like hatton, who is apparently a 'world' champ and is 36-0 or calzaghe whose been around for 12 years is 37-0 and another 'world' champ, to go and wow the media. if the media dont know who these guys are or if they dont rate them as decent or serious fighters than thats down to no one but uncle frank. try pulling off some decent fights, stop fighting nobodies. go and get vivian harris or half a dozen others for hatton , dont act like a spolied child by giving up your madatory statuse,or go get glencoffe johnson or, god forbid, rjj for calzaghe. instead of making all the right noises then coming out with the usual pish excuses for the fights not happening. maybe then the media will be 'wowed'

If Williams beats Maskaev he will be the WBU champ, along with WBU champ Hatton and WBO champ Calzaghe. Those titles WBU especially are considered garbage in the states. As someone said where's the UK tour?

There will be lots of Calzaghe standing outside Italian restaurants in New York, with a clenched fist and an index finger raised.

Hatton standing on top of Statue of Liberty, with some crappy Adam Smith line like, 'Ricky Hatton...the master...of...alll.....he pervays....'

And Harrison will stand while they do a 360 degree view aroudn him from floor level.....'In this land of glistening giants.....Scot...Harrison....etc, etc.

Some of you may recall, this is what they did last time Calzaghe was in new york, might have been before the Brewer fight cant be sure though.

had to laugh at the "Negotiations are under way to schedule the bout as a non-title bout." and heres me thinking of going along to watch a genuine world title bout for the prestigious WBO belt!! ffs the WBO championship is a non title bout.

i wonder how fankie will get round this. we all know he likes his "championship" tags for fights. maybe the 'we're both going nowhere' title could be up for grabs.

mind you alex arthurs defending his much sought after IBO intercontinental belt. so there we go frankies still got his 'championship boxing' for the posters
