My man Darren McDermott will be getting back in the saddle defending his english belt against Bristol (i think) based Butler.

he has just one loss, to Martin Murray, and mostly wins against the usual suspects, Matt Scriven, Tony Randell, etc

a KO win over big tough awkward Jamie Ambler, who doesn't get stopped often and who took Macca the distance, is the result that stands out to my mind.

whats the craic with Butler then?

Butler is busy and fit he seems to have a good chin and arguably could have beaten murray in prizefighter.Hes young so could improve further.Not a big puncher but like darren throws lots of them and uses his stamina and tenacity to grind down opponents.
Could be a good fight but would expect mcdermot to have a bit too much for him,but who knows how barker will affect him.

Should be a good come back fight for Macca - I see him winning it.

Saw him on Prizefighter he looked quite good lost in the semi-final I think could of won that fight Macca should have a bit much for him imo

Has Darren McDermott officially become Mr Counter's "man" then? I, along with everyone else, refer to McDermott as 'his' man. Interesting. I wonder who would be my man? Any idea's, good men?

McDermott has to refocus after his humbling defeat from Barker and treat Butler as a serious threat to his title.

As long as he's fit and focussed I'd pick McDermott. Butler is fit and fast but is basically a spoiler. McDermott will also need to rely on a good referee who won't stand Butler's clinching tactics.

BUTCH- he's had the odd problem in past fights fighting down to opponent's level.

those have been non-title fights though, when he has had something on the line he's generally really poured pressure on his opponent. and the english title is i guess his chance to stay prominent-ish and in the mix waiting for his next shot at the british.

if Butler does clinch a lot he'll be putting himself in position for Darren to push him around and use his deceptive strength. he's also good at shooting uppercuts between the man's arms and he's trying to to tie up
