fighters turning pro??
I never used to really care much about olympic boxing but became interested this year. I know that after the last olympics mad boxers were being signed to pro contracts after the games. I've heard that U.S.A.s Rock Allen has already decided to go pro which isn't that suprissing considering his style fits pro fighting better and his pro connections (Dad and Bernard Hopkins). I also think that Andre Ward had said that he wanted to go pro as a heavyweight. I figure many of the U.S. guys whether they win a medal or not will probably go pro. What are some of the international guys out there that are expected to make the jump after the olympics?
France's Jerome Thomas, who won bronze at Sydney, will probably turn pro after this Olympics.
Most fighters from former Soviet countries don't turn pro. Many are really good but they decide to stay amateurs.
Probably the whole US team will turn pro regardless of what they do, except maybe not Rau'shee Warren, who is only 17. He may stay an amateur for a while.

Yeah Amir Khan is really going to be great in my opinion. Incase anyone is interested, I did a little research and found out that its rumored super heavyweight Aleksandr Povetkin of Russia will go pro and many feel that he will eventually be at the same level as the Klitschkos. Also Vitali Tajbert (featherweight) and Lukas Wilaschek (middleweight) of Germany are expected to go pro under Universum. They are already being trained by Universums Team Gold program which guarantees a pro contract to medal winners. However, they should get one regardless. As far as the Americans go Jason Estrada, Rock Allen and Andre Ward will without a doubt go pro. Devin Vargas will probably go pro but said he wants to retire by the age of 27. I love Vanes Martirosyan's potential as a pro due to his height, and aggressive style but he could use more experience in non-paid fights but it's pretty unlikely that he'll be around for the next Olympics. Andre Dirrell, Ron Siler, and Vincente Escobedo will go pro but I doubt Rau'Shee Warren will, due to his age, as it was mentioned earlier. Well it would be a mistake if he did go pro at such a young age. It would be best for him to work to get to Beijing in four years.
Amir will get a medal, reckon it could be silver, and Amboxing is a disorganised shambles that will not be able to keep the enthusiasm of khan. He can offer Amboxin much more than it can offer him. The pro geezers will be falling over themselves if they aint already. Can't blame the boy, gota do wots right for him.

The guy I think you're talking about is Bakhtiyar Artayev though I havn't heard anything about whether or not he'll go pro yet. It's hard to tell with foreign fighters because I think amateur boxing is bigger in many countries then it is in the states.Nels wrote:Sorry to intrude, but does anyone know if the Kazakh fella (don't know his name, sorry; welterweight I think, beat a Ukrainian to pieces on Sunday, fights again today) is going to turn pro?
He already fights like one (powerpunches and bodyshots); looks quite young as well...
