I would like to compare the class of 1982 against any other class in boxing history. I wpuld not be surprised if 1982 comes out the winner against any class of any year.

Heavyweights: Larry Holmes (1982) vs Who??? Kiltschko???

Cruiserweights: Carlos DeLeon (1982) vs Jean Marc Mormerk (who wins???)

LightHeavyweights: Michael Spinks or Dwight Braxton (1982) vs Antonio Tarver

Middleweights: "Marvelous" Marvin Hagler (1982) vs Bernard Hopkins

Jr Middleweights: Tommy Hearns (1982) vs Winky Wright

Welters: Sugar Ray Leonard (1982) vs Corey Spinks

Which matchup is more intriguing to you??? Which class would have won and by what score??? Is 1982 THE BEST CLASS IN BOXING HISTORY??? Are there any other classes better than 1982. Let's discuss them.

1982 wins most of the matchups.

The only few from 2004 I see winning are Pongsaklek Wongjongkam, Rosendo Alvarez( he seems to be fading but is still pretty good), Jean-Marc Mormeck, and Erik Morales.

And at lightweight, Mancini losses to both but Arguello beats both. Mancini was not that good overall.

Well, I completely disagree that Rosendo Alvarez would have beaten Hilario Zapata in his prime and Jose Luis Castillo beat Ray "Boom Boom" Mancini. Maybe Diego Corrales would have beaten mancini becuse of his height and reach and technique, but Castillo??? He has not shown me NOTHING but taking punches in bunches.

Zapata by decision because of his quickness. Mancini by TKO or by split decision in a classic war

The only fight I see 2004 winning is probably Erik Morales vs Bobby Chacon. Chacon was not the same fighter at jr lightweight as in featherweight. He was on his way down. Morales is at his PRIME right now. But what a war this would've been.

OK, you got me thinking more . . . .

It's been so long since I've seen Zapata so you could be right. I wouldn't say Alverez is out of his league however . . .

Castillo-Mancini would surely be a war. I would say its a pick'em fight.

I def. see Morales beaing Chacon. Just as gutsy and more skilled.

I actually haven't seen Mormeck fight. Substitute him for Wayne Braithwaite (who I think is the best cruiser in the world and if he KOs the Frenchmen like I think he will, could move up to heavyweight and have great success) and I'll favor him over DeLeon.

Holmes humiliates Vitali into a pulpy mess.

Spinks KOs Tarver, in a fairly easy fight.

Hagler decisions Hopkins in a suprisingly close fight. Hagler just too much energy and too much activity, plus just as much speed and almost as good technically (Hagler earlier in his career showed some great boxing skills)

Wright is still kind of a question mark in my book. The Mosley he fought was too puffed up and on the downside, and everyone else of note he's beaten (including Vargas, which was a horrible decision) were good but not great fighters. A very good technical fighter, but I don't see him getting past the Hearns jab. He also doesn't have the punch to get to Hearn's shaky chin. Hearns by UD or possibly late TKO.

Leonard-Spinks??? Everyone should already know the conclusion to that.

Pryor-Tyszu- Pryor by brutal mid round KO.

Sanchez-Pacquao would be AWESOME. I do feel Sanchez has gotten over-rated with time. But I also see Salvador getting a late TKO while behind on points.

I've never seen Zapata fight, but if he was a mover, he would have an excellent chance to beat Alvarez. But I saw he was KO'd in his prime and Rosendo has a good punch and is agressive. A 50-50 fight. Either a Zapata decision or Alvarez KO.

I have to admit I was going by the Alvarez of 2002 who TKO'd Pichitnoi Sitbangprachan in 12 in a brutal beatdown. That Alvarez would beat Zapata easier than the one today. He has slipped but is still edging top 3 to 5 guys in his division.

And I think Jose Luis Castillo has improved a lot since losing to Mayweather and would KO Mancini. I still standby that prediction based on his toughness and I think he could stand and trade with Mancini. If it was a pre-Mayweather Castillo, then I would say Mancini by TKO.

Zapata was a defensive stylist.He was similar in style to Whitaker.

I think Zapata would have been too quick for Alvarez. He was a beauty of a counterpuncher and make you miss like crazy. Plus, he was an excellente southpaw. I think Alvarez is a southpaw too, right??? But anyway, Zapata at his best was very difficult to beat. Very Difficult!!!

Mancini was outboxing the great Alexis Arguello in their 1981 match. But I think Arguello was winning by one or 2 points. I think Mancini would have beaten Castillo. He has not shown me nothing but taking punches in bunches.

Good picks mate

the two surprises come at welter and featherweight. With no disrespect to sanchez I would have picked Saddler to knock him out. And I think Leonard Galvin would have been one hell of a fight with leonard maybe proving the better fighter in the end
