Post by crusader »

Wlad accepts Hayes challenge, Haye pulls out and Wlad takes on a top 5 guy who had been in full training on short notice. Wlad then proceeds to outclass, and win every second of every round working behind the best jab and right hand in the division before finally stopping the hopeless Chagaev and handing him his first defeat. And predictably all we hear after is people ripping on Wlad and going on about how Haye will beat him.

Chagaev has a better chin and much better defense than Haye, not to mention probably better stamina despite a healthy roll around his midsection, so why are some people confident that Haye will win based on Wlads complete domination? It is alot easier to talk trash when you don't have a thundering jab coming straight for your face.

I guess people don't appreciate excellent technical boxing anymore!

Your on the wrong track......

It's not going to be about Haye's defence at all. It will be about whether Hyae can knock out Wlad, before Wlad lands one of his big right hands. This is'nt going to be a defensive fight from Haye's point of view, he won't be looking to tire Klitschko or out point him. Haye will try and blast Wlad out inside the first 4 to 6 rounds and if he has'nt done it by then, he will tire and will get stopped. As it is, Klitschko is fighting rather limited guys, who don't have the variety of punches, movement, speed or power to reallt worry him. They are one dimentional and that's why he wins his fights by his robotic left jab, right hand method, fight after fight. Haye is the only fighter out there that has the variety, movement, speed and power to put Klitschko in a whole heap of trouble. Chagaev, like a lot of Wlad's recent opponents, was never in the fight from the first bell onwards, at least with David Haye, it will be interesting up to the second half of the fight.

I agree with that, but I my point was more aimed at the who people think Haye has a better chance to beat Wlad after watching tonights fight. Did Wlad show any new flaws or look in trouble at any point? No, he was completely dominate during every round, which leaves me wondering why anyone would be even more confident that Haye would pull off an upset because of Wlad's performance.

At least Haye, Arrerola and Povetkin throw punches a HW title fight with one of them would at least cause a bit of excitiment the list of fighters who have fought the Klitschko's and havent throwing is so long now? At least Haye would of swung some leather imo

You are in denial. Haye will do this Haye will do that.

If Haye comes out going for a KO he will end up being Kod within 2 rounds. Haye needs to be able to work his way around the Jab. Its easy to say he not be defenceive but when faced with a jab in his face continuelly. followed by a deadly Straight right he will have to use defence. No matter how much you Brits want him to slug.

Haye's best chance is using his speed to get inside Klits Jab, Its easier said than done though.
Honestly though i think Chageav was as good if not better than Haye, The only advatage Haye has over him is speed. Haye's chin is worse. His defence is worse. Power is slightly to Haye.

Haye's in far too much of a rush. Saw it in the sloppy performance v Barrett and I believe he may have come unstuck v dullard Wlad.

SKY SPORTS ON SOMETHING

Post by chris s »

Can someone tell me where to buy the gear Jim Watt was on during Klitschko v Chagaev? Sky's cheerleading for Klitschko was gut wrenching.

He was made out to be the second coming of Ali and Marciano rolled into one. It was wouldn't fight v couldn't fight.

I can only presume they are going to buy Haye v which eletrical-mechanical Klitschko he fights and will sell it as the biggest heavyweight fight since Ali v Frazier III.

They were even trying to build Jonathan Banks into a real heavyweight prospect.

I thought it was a cracking display, completely dominating a very good fighter. How many top boxers in history have taken ridiculous risks when they could control matters like that. A real systematic beating.

You're right of course it was a systematic beating, but I wouldn't have minded seeing a bit of variety in his punches. Did he throw anything other than jabs and straight rights :-? :-?

I'm not doubting his dominance of the fight or even over the current crop of heavyweight pretenders. It was the Sky commentary that was way off course. The way over-hyped a bloke who has two punches in his arsenal, been dropped about 10 times in his career and is terrified of getting hit.

Was thinking the same thing. Jim Watt was talking as if the occassion might make Wlad fight a different fight, yet he fails to realise occassions like that are the norm in Gernmany, albeit maybe slightly lesser crowds.

They kept harping on about what a great fight it was and Wlad best ever performance. Who's he trying to kid, it was like watching an Olympian against a punchbag.

The Klitschkos are here to stay. We will have to put up with them for another 5 years.

Haye will get KO'd by the first big right hand, even a jab might put him in trouble to be honest. Thats a big mismatch.

Valuev, Arreola, Banks, Holyfield, Toney, Rahman etc. All have no chance against the Klitschkos.

Agreed there is not a HW I can think of who could beat either of the Klitschko's sure people say Wlad has a bad chin but he is hard to hit as he uses his reach so well so if you land clean there is a chance he could go but the hard part is landing

Spot on guys.
Wlad didn't need to vary his punches - what he was doing was proving to be very effective!

We've learn't nothing new of Wlad, he was boring before and he remains boring after.

We all knew he was good at what he does, but it doesn't change my above point.

He is very effective at what he does, but he not exciting to watch. Can't see Haye beating him, think the jab we get to Haye. Has Povetkin got any chance?

i admired klitschko s performance, especially his jab, footwork and the way he measured the distance.it did look odd how he never threw an uppercut, hook or body shot.

i just cant see how on earth chagaev managed the beat the great felix savon twice in the amateurs

What a monotonous fight. Wlad fights like a frigging metronome. Jab jab jab right, jab jab jab right. Christ, there's no variety in there at all. I saw him throw one left hook the whole fight. No body shots, no uppercuts, just the 1-2 all night.

Chag fell into the trap that most of Wlad's opponents fall into, trying to draw the lead, and never getting their own shots off.

And please, don't compare Wlad to Lennox. Lewis had every shot in the book, and even in his most pedestrian outings was a lot more exciting to watch.

I wish Vitali would fight Wlad and knock him spark out, just so we could be rid of him.

I just don't see anyone beating Wlad now, there's nobody with the right combination of talent, physicality and experience to beat him now. I don't think Haye can do it, he won't get near him and he will get knocked out by one of those right hands that Chag eat last night. I hope I'm wrong, but other than that, who the hell else is there?

povetkin has drive, stamina, strength, solid boxing skills and ama pedigree incl olympic gold 2004. but not the punch. above all, he is quite quick at closing the distance. i believe his promoters are holding him back, waiting for a safe vacant title.

he won 2 IBF elims - byrd and chambers - but has been affected by illness and injury. so he has sadly lost momentum. but he is considerably faster and more accomplished on the inside than chagaev.

boytsov looks a future hope, but still young and learning. when he fights for a title, wlad will be retired. he had a good step up fights and smashed taras bidenko with uppercuts. stocky, 6'1 or 2'ish puncher with some poise and patience (if a litte too methodical). but what i love about him is when he gets in range and unleashes a bomb, he has some potential

Wlad has actually regressed in terms of punch variety - I remember wathcing him take apart Monte Barret years ago and the majority of the knockdowns (if my memory serves me) came from short, clever left hooks in close.

His lack of faith in his own whiskers these days prevents him from fighting on the inside - he deserves the criticism he draws for his unimaginative and one dimensional title defences these days..
