Danny McIntosh is brimming with confidence ahead of his British title showdown with Nathan Cleverly at the York Hall in Bethnal Green, London on July 18th. The undefeated Norwich man currently holds the English Light Heavyweight title and he has no doubts that he will be adding the Lonsdale belt to his honours list next month.

The mouth watering clash headlines the next Hennessy Sports event and will be live on ITV4. Despite his perfect record McIntosh has been labelled a 7/2 underdog by the bookies but he’s scoffed at those odds. “There’s going to be a lot of people with egg on their face after this fight,” predicted McIntosh.

“It’s a great fight between two undefeated guys and it’s a fight that needed to be made. I’ve heard people like Barry McGuigan saying that it’s too soon for me and that I need more experience but I couldn’t care less what anyone else thinks.

“When I fought Joey Vegas people said it was too soon, when I fought Steve Spartacus they said it was too soon and when I fought Matthew Barney they said it was too soon and guess what? I’m still undefeated, I won all those fights and I’ll will this one as well and I’ll prove an awful lot of people wrong in the process.

“People don’t see what I do in the gym day in, day out. I know I’m ready for this and I know I’ll be leaving that ring with the Lonsdale belt.”

Although McIntosh has only had 10 pro fights in comparison to Cleverly’s 16 he feels that the calibre of his opposition has been better. “Some of the guys Cleverly’s been in with have been complete unknowns,” said McIntosh.

“He’s looked good blowing them away but anyone would have looked good against those guys. He’s a nice technician and a decent boxer but I don’t think he’s been tested at all yet and he’s going to get a shock when he gets in the ring with me.”

The 29-year-old who trains out of the Ingle Gym in Sheffield is currently stepping up his preparations for next months contest. “I’m sparring with George Groves at the moment and I’m hoping to get some sparring in with Carl Froch shortly as well. I’m really buzzing for this fight, it’s a huge opportunity for me and I know I’m going to walk away with that British title, all I have to do is go into that ring and collect it.”

An action packed undercard at the York Hall features former British and European Lightweight Champ Jon Thaxton, unbeaten Heavyweight sensation Tyson Fury and contests featuring hot prospects Steve O’Meara, Dwayne Lewis, Bradley Evans, Del Rogers and Bobby Ward.

I'm back in the UK when this is on so think I'm going to head down to London to watch as I believe it's that rarity of a real 50/50 match between two undefeated talents.
Unlike some others on here, I've been impressed by McIntosh when I've seen him fight and while I'm slightly leaning towards Cleverly at the moment, it's by a wafer-thin margin.

If only fights like this got made more regularly, excellent match-up. I've been very impressed with Cleverly lately and I'd expect him to win (which is probably why Cleverly has been allowed to fight on a rivals card)

Its a very exciting match up 2 undeafeted promising prospects fighting each other brave promotional work cant see how McIntosh is going to win though Clev seems to be getting better and better with each fight and is looking really promising for the future

Great matchup, can't wait for it. I see it like this:

Cleverly: Clearly very talented as a boxer, I still don't think he has great power and he's been given a few easy fights to get his KO percentage up. I do though think a very slick boxer who is better in that department than Mcintosh by a bit.

McIntosh: I see more power in this kid, seems to be a bit more heavy handed than Cleverly, when he connects he seems to hurt people and I agree he's been in with the slightly higher calibre of guys, whereas Cleverly has had some nic ematchmaking by Fwank, but when Clev did step up he did really well vs Oakey so he still has form.

I see it 60/40 in Cleverlys favour but that's not to say McIntosh can;t pull off a surprise (i'd say shock but I don;t think it would quite be a 'shock'). Overall, matchups like this are so few and far between these days so much respect to both fighters for taking it.

great match up this. i wish all fights where like this my self.

im tipping clev to win this 1 with a late stoppage, but if mcintosh k.o.d cleverly very early on i wouldnt be completely shocked as i think he has a big punch on him. i know it sounds like im sitting on the fence for this 1, but on paper it seems a realy good fight, which could go any way

im a fan of tony bellews, so i would like to see him fight the loser and see how he compares. in my opinion he beats both, but i would like to see bellew get a few rounds under his belt, as he hasnt gone past 4 rounds yet, his last fight was a 6 rounder but he stopped his man in the 4th. so maybe a few 6-8 rounds under his belt then challenge the winner in 12 months time or so.

i think the l-heavy is becoming a good division at the moment and there are a few fights out there that would be good to watch down the line.

he isnt light punching he may not hit as hard as danny but he still whallops and id say clev is faster and more acurate and i think he will stay away from macintosh and fire many acurate shots to dannys face and we will see danny get Ko'd

thats what i understand is that i went to purse bids and hennessey won
