Are you sure it's the 25th. Does that mean they're showing it live?

The BBC can't let themselves totally drop boxing. They wanted to, believe me, but Amir Khan has forced them to swallow their pride.

A somewhat optimistic view. I reckon it was already pencilled in.

I really hope RJJ wins - he's by far the superior boxer. So disappointing that Tarver has Jones on his record - it would be a very bad day for boxing purists if Johnson beat him.

Agree with u Bennie, they wanted to drop it defo but Khan has pushed them in a corner somewhat. With Khanmania, it would be shameful for them to drop it now.

The BBC signed a deal with HBO. They are going to fulfil their contract obligation, but not renew it. Mearly my take.

It happens all the time, the BBC didn't renew the contract to show the Simpsons - it didn't stop them from showing what they were contracted to show.

I can't remember how long was the deal, but I do believe a complete drop out will happen (barring the Amateurs) next year.

It's a sad state of affairs  What is wrong with covering the minority sports? I just cannot understand the contempt that these stations show Boxing.

Is that what boxing really is..a minority sport?

Amir Khan is front page in the papers, and he has not fought in the final yet.
There have already been athletes in the games who have won gold. But they don’t make front page.
I think this proves that boxing is anything but a minority sport.
Maybe there are those who would like it to be a minority sport, but the media attention that Amir Khan has received so far has showed at this stage boxing still appeals to the vast majority of the public.

You don't think that has more to do with him being 17 and exceeding expectation?

Sorry mate, but the Olympics come along every four years and on one day a Boxer makes the front page. If he had been knocked out in the first round none of the main papers would have cared anymore. I'm afraid in my eyes and this is in no small contribution from the media, Boxing is a minority sport in Britain. How many times did Lennox Lewis or Prince Naseem in there prime make the front pages? Apart from when it was bad news? Lewis KO'd Tyson and still only managed a back page split with the Football.

Amir Khan's success and Danny Williams have both given Boxing a boost, but they only made big news because they HAVE to be big news...if Williams had been stopped and Khan knocked out first round do you still think the papers would be interested? I don't. When our Boxers succeed they CANNOT be ignored.

Sorry for my negativity but that's the way i see it.

Maybe my view was a bit cynical but the BBC's recent treatment of boxing makes me think this way.

The nationwide boxing coverage in the tabloids is very poor. People say Hatton Witter is a fight everyone in Britain wants to see but i disagree. Its a fight all true boxing fans want to see.

I dont know many people who even know who Junior Witter is

Anyway I hope Glen punishes Roy Jones

roy jones is coming off a two round knockout straight into a tough, high workrate, mauling warrior, fresh off two 'new lease of life' wins and still a top name even at his age. The pre fight pictures of jones before the second tarver matchup suggested a tired, ageing man. who knows how jones will go into this. i don't think its out of the question that glen can pull off an accumulation stoppage.

johnson is worth a fiver at least.

I still don't think Boxing is a minority sport, its still second to football in terms of drumming up attention. If you think the press went OTT with Johnny Wilkinson and that kick. Just think back to 1995 and Frank Bruno winning the world title. Footballing moments (Gazza etc) still stay in the memory for longer, but when a boxing event grabs the imagination, its grabs everybody.

When you go to a video shop, look in the sports section. You'll get a pile of footballing ones, but boxing is the only other sport with tapes for sale.

Admittedly, the closure of many Amateur clubs and a lack of terrestial TV coverage is making hard to stay in the mainstream, but if boxing was treated like it was in the early 90's (when it was on ITV) then it would still be the second most watched sport.

For many years, boxing was sky 4th biggest ratings puller, the Simpsons, the football and the wrestling were more popular. However, boxing was more popular than apparently non-minority sports like Cricket and Rugby. A combination of a poorish crop of British fighters and poor match ups has put the game in doldrums, but it could be back up there if promoters and TV companies thought as they did 10 years ago. The interest IS there, but people need to be re-introduced to the sport as a spectator.
