I've just downloaded the Pryor v Hearns fight from when they were amateurs, its an excellent bout. Pryor has the same style that he would use in the pros, he looks the same as well, lots of punches and head movement.
Hearns is only 17 here and its at lightweight, he uses much more movement than he will do as a pro, and doesn't throw the right hand with much power, Emanuel Steward is in his corner.
The first is pretty even both start out fast. You can really see that Pryor is really pumped up for this ( and not by any drugs as was later accussed in his career), he comes out winging lefts and rights. Hearns uses the ring to try and outbox him, when he throws the right it isn't straight and kind of loops, taking the power out of it. Pryor just shades the first.
In the second Pryor lands with a great left then a right whilst Hearns has his back against the ropes, the ref steps in and issues a standing count, Pryor piles on the pressure trying to find the finish, but can't find the ending punch. Hearns starts to fire back towards the end of the round and seems to be recovering. Pryor wins second
In the third both are tiring, Pryor has thrown alot of power punches during the bout, but still presses foward in the bobbing style letting the hands go. Hearns connects with some stinging right hands towards the end of the round. Hearns round.
Pryor wins by decision.
It really is an interesting bout, Hearns just looks so young, and the commentator says at the end, if Hearns goes pro he may well put on a few pounds and box at a higher weight. Well he was right on that one.
Pryor just looks the same , except he doesn't have a moustache. Boxing wise you couldn't mistake him.
