Val Barker winners

Can anyone give a list of the winners of the Val Barker award from the previous Olympics? And does anyone know whether the winner of the trophy has to be a gold medal winner? I think RJ won it and i know he didn't win gold but just wondered if this went against the norm. Just interested whether Amir might be in with a shot of getting it even if he doesn't win in the final. Cheers

Roy was really an exception cos everyone knew that he was the real winner. I watched his final match the other day against the Korean...he absolutely dominated...haven't seen a decision like it.

I know Jirov won it in 96...not sure about other olympics, i'm no expert.

I expect the winner of Khan-Kindelan will be the most likely to win the prestigious award.

THE VAL BARKER TROPHY

Val Baker was the first General Secretary of the International Amateur Boxing Association. The trophy bearing his name is awarded to the boxer who is considered to show the best technique and style in the Olympic Games. Unless indicated otherwise all the winners are Gold medalists.

1936 : Louis Lauria, USA - Lightweight (Bronze medal)

1940 : No Games held

1944 : No Games held

1948 : George Hunter, South Africa - Light Heavyweight

1952 : Norval Lee, USA - Light Heavyweight

1992 : Roberto Balado, Cuba - Super Heavyweight

bit of a surprise theres only ever been 2 cuban winners. incidently, youll notice the only British winner is a Scotsman!!

Interesting list - given the pro legends who took part on all those games, it is interesting that only Roy Jones (and to a lesser extent Nino Benevuti) won the coveted Val Barker.

No PBF, no ODH, no Lennox Lewis, no Foreman, no Clay.

How good do you guys think the late Roberto Balado was compared to other great Heavyweights and Super- Heavyweights? I've only seen clips of his fights.
