i remember seeing this guy as an amatuer, he was quite devastating. as you can see by his pro nick was quite mediocre as a professional. does anyone have access to his amateur record? i can picture a shitload of KO's.

..hey punch...i mentioned wells in a thread a long time ago ...on big punchers, i believe...and nobody responded. he was the most devastating amateur puncher i've ever seen....for the first few minutes....even seconds...of the first round. a southpaw with a wide open style and always looked chubby and out of condition..which he obviously was. don't have access to his amateur record...but i think....not positive but going by memory...that duane bobick got off the floor to kayo him...maybe on the way to the olympics. wells had the shavers syndrome in excess....frightening power but exhausted quickly.

rollie schwartz..who was an expert on amateur boxing...(and who trained me to train amateurs)...thought he was on of the biggests wastes of amateur talent he ever saw.

i remember, according to the television announcers, he had a run of seventeen 1st round ko's. i saw two of the 1st roundrs on tv and a 3 rounder where a pollock guy floored wells and beat him up until wells ko'd him in the 3rd round. too bad that wells just went nowhere as a pro.
