Re: Setanta in Administration
I never subscribed to Setanta but that's sad news for all those that did and of course the employees.

Exactly Alex.
People should not revel in the fact that Setanta are in administration like someone above stating "we all saw it coming"- firstly and most importantly it must be a sad day for those that have lost their jobs - secondly boxing is going to suffer big time - sports fans will also suffer who like other sports.
Its a sad day!!!

Re: Setanta in Administration
They say that they are ceasing operations in the UK. Does that mean we will still be able to watch Setanta Ireland and they will still show the same boxing programming?
Lets hope Disney start taking things serious and improve their offering to the UK boxing fans

Re: Setanta in Administration
Sounds like it'll be within days based upon the presumption that the bold text applies to existing and new customers:
Shit.Deloitte have been appointed as administrators in a development that was expected after the Premier League pulled the plug on Setanta last week.
Now the Football Association will have to find a new broadcast partner FA Cup and England matches.
Neville Kahn, one of the joint administrators, said: "After a huge effort by the Setanta board, management team and its backers, it has not been possible to save the GB business, which will be wound down in due course."
Setanta have 1.2million subscribers and also had broadcast deals with the Scottish Premier League, the Blue Square Premiership, cricket's Indian Premier League and golf's PGA tour.
Kahn added: "This decision means that it will shortly cease broadcasting to its customers in Great Britain. However the International and Ireland businesses continue to trade on air whilst we are in discussions with parties to take these businesses on as going concerns.
"Regrettably, approximately 200 employees will be made redundant in respect of the GB business. Setanta has today suspended the collection of subscription payments from customers in Great Britain.
"We can confirm that no further monthly subscriptions or direct debits will be accepted from customers of the UK business."

Chris - perhaps I am reading too much into this Setanta business - but the sad thing is I think people in boxing will lose their jobs too - a lot of people were heavily reliant on Setanta getting bigger in their boxing coverage!!!chris s wrote:Spot on mate, people losing their jobs first and boxing secondSpud wrote:Exactly Alex.

Re: Setanta in Administration
got it on setanta news now.
there doing a best of compilation by the looks of it.
just had the boxing bit with buncey. :(
i'm surprised no investor stepped in.
especially with the premier league rights that came along with setanta.
but they obviously could see it wasn't gonna make money long term and ditched the idea. :(

Was watching the golf and got a message that they have ceased trading. It's on all channels.

Re: Setanta Has Just Been Turned Off
Setanta 1, 2 and Golf are like this. Ireland is okay.

Re: Setanta in Administration
It's a real shame to see them go and I feel sorry for the people losing their jobs. Although Setanta weren't perfect (pisspoor customer service anyone?) they were certainly better than Sky when it came to catering for boxing fans and with no competition for Sky I can't see it getting any better for us.

Re: Setanta Has Just Been Turned Off
Setanta News appears to be dead.
Re: Setanta Has Just Been Turned Off
I would recommend cancelling all DDs just to be sure.
Re: Setanta Has Just Been Turned Off

Re: Setanta Has Just Been Turned Off
We also don't get to see decent shows on Ireland like UFC and Boxing. It's encoded.
