Trinidad v Cuevas

I have seen very little of Cuevas a lot of Trinidad. So I cant really make an opinion. What you guys think?

trinidad could possibly pull a tommy herns on cuevas. i don't rmember is trinidad typically a slow starter or what? if he comes out ballet dancing with cuevas he could get slammed.

Trinidad at welter was a particulary slow starter and was knocked down a lot early.

I see Tito taking a visit to the canvas, then getting up and knocking Cuevas out, all in 3 or 4 rounds.

If Trinidad got knocked down by Cuevas then he may not get back up and if he did he would have faced a terrible barrage of power punches. He'd have to be very careful.

Cuevas would win this one quite easily I feel, Trinidad was good but Cuevas was an all time great who fought in a much more talented and competitive era.... at his best Cuevas destroyed a long line of very dangerous and durable Welters and until the Hearns fight he had a chin of rock.... Cuevas wins by ko in 3 rounds....8)

I think we are underestimating the Puerto Rican great here. Trinidad may be in one of boxing's worst eras, but Cuevas quality of oppsiton victories are not that great either. Andy Price beat him pretty good. Pipino's jaw was good vs lower class oposition, but when he had to upgrade it, Tommy Hearns squashed him in two rounds. Roberto Duran allmost killed him in 4.

I think Pipino was good, and certainly a Hall of Famer, but he would not take the best from Tito, a boxer-puncher that even when he used to go down, had the heart and recuperative powers to get up. Tito really suffered flash knockdowns, and when he gets up, he seems to be stronger as the fight went on. He reminded me as a welterweight Carlos Zarate. He was a better and MONSTRUOS PUNCHER AT 154 LBS, though,. Tito by KO in 7.

I'm not being cheeky but have you seen Cuevas fight?... he was a much better puncher than Trinidad.... he had heavyweight power. Cuevas lost to a peak Hearns when he was himself probably a little jaded after 4 years as champion. That said, Hearns was awesome himself and his ko of Cuevas is nothing for Pipino to be ashamed about, remember HEARNS also koed Duran in 2 rounds, something noone else ever came close to doing, even William Joppy when Duran was 47.
Pipinoes early losses came when he was learning his trade, his defences were against people like Randy Sheilds, Peter Ranzany, Angel Espana, Clyde Gray, Harold Weston... these were all dangerous and talented fighters who also fought and down well against the likes of Leonard, Hearns and Benitez..... Cuevases opposition was in a different class to Trinidads. Against Cuevas Felix would not suffer a flash knockdown, Pipino would take charge early on and Trinidad would be floored and then koed. 8)

Sure, I have seen Pipino fight!!! He was an animal with great punching power----That's it!!!

But ring generalship, reflexes, and skill he had a D or F in those categories. The only great thing he had besides power and strenght was his STAMINA.

In the other hand, Tito was at least in my view and opinion, a better boxer. At least, Tito could box a little bit. I give your props that Pipino had better quality of opposition than Tito, but not by much.

But I think Tito was much faster and stronger as the fight progressed. Tito by TKO in 7.
