What Will Happen To The Steve Bunce Boxing Hour ?
Simple question.........
What will happen to Steve Bunces' boxing hour show, now that Setanta have gone completely ?
Will it be taken on by Sky Sports ?

im guessing even tho setanta has gone under someone connected to the company is still going to own the rights to it, so it would probably cost sky to take it on.
i think it would be a sound investment tho as its proved hugely popular...

No chance will Sky take it on, Sky don't care about boxing.
It would certainly be a completely different style - more like the clips shown on SSN.

There are'nt many tv companies that would give the amount of freedom that the boxing hour enjoyed and i seriously doubt whether they would give it a live format. It's quirkiness, the live format and Bunce's straight forward approach are what gave the show it's spark and that's quite rare in today's media, where most things are edited and scripted to avoid offence and made safe in the process. On the whole, Setanta going under is a major blow to British boxing and i don't think some people realise how much of an impact it's going to make on promoters, fighters and the boxing audience.stujones wrote:No chance will Sky take it on, Sky don't care about boxing.

In my opinion Setanta and the Boxing Hour really invigorated boxing over the last couple of years. The competition Setanta & ITV4 provided each other really made things go in a healthy direction. Hopefully the show can continue on a channel which allows creative freedom and not on sky only to talk about the trash Friday night FW hype jobs vs. Any old African fighter for the commonwealth title.

Despite what we might think on here, boxing is still a fringe sport when compared to Football, Rugby and Cricket. It will always be difficult for a channel to exist purely on the strength of it`s boxing coverage.
Boxing will go the pay per view route, which naturally will be a huge blow to those of us who want to watch the upcoming fighters and smaller hall bills. This will of course be bad news, but perhaps it may improve the quality of the overall cards??
I don`t mind paying £15 for a quality card with three or four top fights. Double or triple title bills would be preferable to the crap they throw at us these days.
Take the Klitschko card last Saturday. This was not pay per view, but for a title fight like that the undercard was a joke.
Think back 20 years ago or more and some of the shows they put on were class affairs.

I'd love to see someone like Channel Five take it on, or any one of those type of channels - Bravo etc - as it's entertaining as much as informative.....
TBH I'd be happy if anyone took it on, look at how many channels and crap shows are on across Sky, it's must see TV for thousands of boxing fans - there must be a place for it.

ITV4 could do it despite their withdrawal from boxing live coverage.
They could dispense with the pay-cheques for BarryMc, Rawling and Duke, get Steve, Jim Rosenthal sat down in gyms around the country or in a boozer for crying out loud.
