Maloney , Hearns and Hatton all have TV deals in place with Sky, I think that Hayemaker are going to find it hard financially to get a good deal out of them.
The Setanta deal looked so good, because the money Setanta were offering wasn't there in the first place.

didnt they pay that Scottish Feather (forgot his name) somat stupid like £70/80k to defend his British Title against Lynseywhatashambles wrote:Yeah but Dave Coldwell has plenty of experience and with the backing of Goldenboy you wouldn't think they would do anything stupid regarding overpaying etc.DavidPayne wrote:I've said it before, this goes right back to Rhodes v Small IMO.
Others have denied it. But I'd guess there were soem financial aspects to that pull out.
Hayemaker is discovering what all of the new breed of promoters will discover. It isn't as easy as it looks.

Now is not the time to speculate and make predictions.
It isn't just Setanta / Hayemaker that's the story here.
It's boxing / TV in general.
We have Clinton Woods and Junior Witter coming up in World title shots.
I dont believe Denis has a TV deal in place for the fight, and that looks like going on in Jersey.
ITV have pulled the plug and I just cant see there being any TV in place for Witter, given the horrendous problems Meaty Mick had with the Froch fight.
I am a fan of Junior, but even I can see that the Alexander fight (as good as it is on paper for the purists), has no marketability when compared to Froch.
If you cant get a deal for Froch, no chance for Witter.
I have never felt so desperate for the Sport we love.
This is dire.
Turning to Sky, will they pump more in to get more out ?
I cant see it.
We've got the close season more or less with us now.
Sit back and wait time for us by the looks of it.
If anything good comes out of this MAYBE just MAYBE Promotors might start working together more.
Rose tinted glasses ?

Cancelling Sky soon, so I will have ZERO channels that are showing boxing. Sky are the mismatch capital of the world and most of the decent fights are on Box Office anyways. Feck paying another £15 just to watch Khan (who hasn't really done much as a pro) fight someone casual fans haven't even heard about.
Prescott
Fagan
Barrera (past his best and up a division)
Kotelnik
Only purists will know a lot about Khan's opponents, excluding Barrera. It's a joke. I pay £44 a month in total for Sky and I only really watch boxing, and football. I can watch Match of the Day. It's a shame. Sky should be pushing for better fights. I mean, look at 95% of headlining fights these days - they're a fecking joke.
Sky just lost one customer.

It was Paul Applebey and I believe the figure was about £40-50k but yes it was a crazy amount to pay - even Tommy Gilmour said so.sweetscience wrote:

Sweetscience,
Hayemaker did pay a premium to get Lindsay his shot, but the figures you quote I believe are a little OTT.
That said, I think you'll find the show was a total success, and not a loss leader.
Whiteboy,
Josh Wale reached a mutual agreement to have his contract rescinded.
It wasn't about activity at all.
Since he left, he signed with Gilmour.
He was promised a British Title fight, but Booth got the chance instead.
He's been slated to fight 3 times since he left and he's had - Zero fights.
The market place is in a mess.
Then with the boot on the other foot, you've got Ricky with his Sky deal, and not enough boxers to deliver.
Weird world.

Doctorboxing,
I think Gilmour ought to put his hand over his mouth and shout shut up.
His lad got a good pay day - and a beating.
Look what he's done with Josh Wale.
Nowt.

We can only hope. I guess it's a case of now or never for the promoters. If they can't unite for the better of the sport (not just their own companies/businesses) in this current climate, it ain't ever going to happen. This is as bad as I can remember boxing being during my lifetime.twenty six wrote:Now is not the time to speculate and make predictions.

i generally try to look on the bright side and some matchups this year- mcdermott-barker, elcock-macklin lindsey-appleby- have been great for me as a fan, and made me think british boxing might be heading for a boom period or at least a better one in terms of competitive matchups. but the darkness and horror seems to be enveloping boxing like a fog or swarm of bees in some 50s b-movie :x

Wrong. He fought last Friday.
Quite a bit of Gilmour hating here.twenty six wrote: I think Gilmour ought to put his hand over his mouth and shout shut up.

When exactly did Josh Wale become a Gilmour boxer? I didn't realise he was until last weekend when he was on the undercard of the Lee McAllister Commonwealth bout, so he has had at least one 8 rounder under Gilmour.

Yogi,
My apologies - he did fight.
Whose bill was that on (Promotor) ?
I dont hate Gilmour - far from it.
However, to slate a fellow Promotional outlet for paying his man (and therefore Tommy himself) too much is just ridiculous.
In business sometimes you have to speculate to accumulate.
Hayemaker paid the price to get Lindsay home advantage - and it worked !!!!
I am telling you he promised Wale the British title shot so Wale signed.
Then suddenly Booth gets the chance.
Then Wale fights for 4 rounds against someone I've not heard of.

No-one is investing in TV at the moment, it's not just boxing that is affected.
Because of the current climate, advertisers can't afford to pay as much - in my "9-5" job were are being offed advertising space at a fraction of the cost it was 24 months ago- put it this way, now we could afford to do something basic on the TV , which even this time last year was totally unthinkable (because of the cost.)

The promotion was announced as ""Granite City Boxing Promotions & Tommy Gilmour MBE". Granite City is Lee McAllisters outfit so it must have been a co-promotion.twenty six wrote:Yogi,

Josh was very warmly welcomed by the crowd, I guess that they knew he was Lee's stablemate. I had no idea, I thought he was still with Hayemaker and only there due to the Coldwell connection until I read something in the Sunday paper.
I follow Scottish boxing and I've never read Gilmour "slate" Hayemaker over the Lindsay Appleby purse. Yes, he mentioned it plenty, by way of a reason for giving away home advantage but he never appeared to slag off his fellow promoter, not that I read anyway.
Vladimir Borov was a decent journeyman to get Josh in with after 8 or 9 months out of the ring IMO. He's a tough journeyman who's been in with Alex Arthur, Ricky Burns, Michael Gomez, Dazzo Williams, Nicy Cook, Michael Hunter and plenty others. Josh did pretty well to stop him inside the distance.
You never said when he signed with Gilmour?

I make Spud bang on the money. Sky want Haye himself on Box Office. I think the Sky commentary the other night where they bigged up Wlad showed where we're going
Sky showed last weekend that they can do Saturday night fights if they want. People need to prove to Sky that there are the fights and the audience to make it happen.

Sky will show fights outside their normal contracted promoters when they want and the fights will have to popular headline fights for them to go out of their way - this leaves Hayemaker with a big problem as the undercard fighters need to be out more than David Haye will box in a year.RLewis wrote:Sky showed last weekend that they can do Saturday night fights if they want. Chris
Sky showed that fight cause it came cheap as a last minute thing, and I am sure a bit of a knife in the back of Setanta.
They won't be doing that with a deal with Hennessey or Haye.
This is obvious with the problems Warren is the Amateurs. You don't make press releases with two dates (a Friday or a Saturday) unless you are campaigning very hard to get a TV paymaster to put it on a certain date, and no promoter with a TV contract actually wants Boxing on Friday night.
