Problems with Boxing News

Post by Wilko »

I have a subscription to BN and normally receive it on Friday morning. However the last two months it has been arriving a few days late (very frustrating)

Have called several times to complain and have been told it will be due to local postal problems. Have gone as far to complain to my local post office who have told me all is fine with post in the local area.

Anyway - digressing - has anyone else had problems recently? Are they having problems meeting their deadlines?

I'm in London too and have still not received last Fridays. Not so bad at the moment with it being the summer break but it's horrible getting an issue after a big fight and still trying to read the preview with interest.

I subscribe and have not received an edition of Boxing News in 3 weeks!!!!! . my subscription ends in November.

I moved house and have informed BN by phone, by e-mail twice and post twice of my new address but still no joy. I don't know what else to do.

If one does not arrive this Friday/Saturday I will think about cancelling my subscription. Which I would hate to do as I have been reading it every week since about 1988.

Boxing News is a brilliant read and the staff to a great job, but I'm not paying for a product that I don't get.

ive had the same problem. i recently renewed my subscription and in 3 months only 2 issues turned up on time. i phoned in to complain and was told that it was a distribution problem with the royal mail.

i reminded them that i took outt he subscription on the understanding that it would be delivered on a friday, though i accepted the occasional issue may be late. i pointed out the fact that if they had problems with their distributers then that was their problem and not mine and it may be an idea if they had so many complaints to use a different distributer.

the woman asked me to put my complaint in an email which would be passed to the "appropriate person at the head office". since i done this and included the point that if the service carried on like this i would cancel my subscription and seek recompense every issue has arrived on time!!

the email address for subscription queries/ complaints is.. [email protected]

I've toyed with idea of subscribing - it would prove a good Christmas present - but I allways hear about delivery problems and thus stick to the tried and trusted, buying it from the Newsagents.

I sued to have to have it ordered but now they get three copies in and I'm there first.

The old girls used to laugh when I went to collect it because my surname is Payne and the other bloke who had it ordered was called BASHAM, they were in fits EVERY week.

Its a small town. Not a lot to do.

I'll threaten to cancel then in the hope that improves it.

I've just cancelled my subscription to Boxing Monthly as it's gone down hill in my opinion.

I subscribe to both, live in Sheffield, and it's rare that I ever have delivery problems. In saying that, today's BN hasn't come but I'm pretty sure that is down to Royal Mail.

I think BN is getting better and better but I agree, Boxing Monthly (although I still subscribe and enjoy it) is certainly on the wane a bit.

Boxing News are acting on this thread. This is a disgrace and the boys at BN can only apologize.

That's good to know Bennie. I'm not normally a moaner but reading BN on a Friday is a weekly treat.

BM is okay but I don't enjoy it as much anymore. Also I get the impression Glyn Leach lets his personal views get too much in the way.

BM has gone to the dogs I dont read it anymore. Never been a fan of Leach either, particularly the way he writes including swearing etc. I know I can hardly talk but I'm not the editor of a magazine that can be read by youngsters am I??

I've also heard he never attends live shows which seems a bit odd to me.

it went downhill for me when they scrapped the monthly results page.

You've saved me the trouble of having to write a lengthy email, thanks.
Good to know that they are acting upon this thread, as I'm sure you will agree it is extremely annoying to not receive something for which one has paid.

Cheers
acting by doing what? they going to get a courier which can deliver on time, or just fobbing you and us of with the usual excuse of ' looking into it', whilst not really doing very much?

since ive sent an email , around a month ago, i havent even had the courtesy of an email form "the appropriate person at head office" to acknowledge my own. fact is the customer services at boxing news is shit, and their delivery not much better. Personally I presume if they can afford to treat their customers with such distain, they dont need the business. Im not renewing my subs.

i was told on the phone that there had been many many complaints about delivery, and these complaints had been going on for some time. obviously they decided to do nothing about it at the time. but as soon as theres a thread on the internet, which might in some way be bad publicity, we're suddenly told that they are 'acting on it'. Ah well, too little too late and all that.

FWIW; Let me come to BN’s defense and agree that it’s due to local postal problems.
This Yank’s way out in California USA and I’ve been getting my issues on Saturdays for the last three weeks. Before that I would get them on Tuesdays. So they are obviously getting them out on time.

If the Britt postal is anything like the US postal service I can understand and sympathize.
Their idea of “tea time” is better known as Hollyweed.

Yeah, and the letters page. Boxing Monthly used to have a good "family" atmosphere and always replied to the letters I sent (even the non-published ones). I think maybe for the earlier ones they could twig I was a new buyer, because my knowledge on the politics was piss poor.

I used to love the monthly results page, even with the internet it is sometimes hard to find out what exactly happend in some of the obscure bouts that has caught the individuals attention. that was a great page.

Without meaning to be disrespectful, I was quite surprised that it was Steve Bunce who got given the nod to do Tyson vs Williams, not a bad piece - although it read exactly the same as his segments he sometimes does on the beeb (i.e. the Kirkland Laing one).

Steve Farhood is one of the best boxing writers around, and I assumed it would be either him or the also great Graham Houston who would do that gig.

Have to disagree. It is NOT the fault of the postal service. From the posts above you will have read that many of us have checked with our local postal service and all is o.k. with them; the fault clearly lies with BN. :TU:
Regarless of whether the fault lies with the post office or with the Boxing News folks, the fact remains that people who pay good money to have their BN delivered at home on Fridays are being short changed. .

the only people who can come out of this without any blame attached are us subscribers.

I guess we will just have to disagree. :TU:
Like I said, I have received my BN on Saturdays out here in California.
It stands to reason BN mails the weekly issues in bulk rate at the same time.
The last person I would believe in this would be a bureaucrat.

Oh well, there goes another subscriber to Boxing News. I was going to subscribe this week actually, but this has put me off and now I will definitely not subscribe until there is a 100% cast iron assurance that the BN will arrive on Friday, every Friday. Due to my new job I can no longer go to my nearest WH Smith to pick up BN, therefore I've probably read my last ever issue :(
