Not only will Khan beat Kotelnik....
...but it will be easy or at least thats the way it will appear.
Thats my honest opinion on the matter, and i say this in response after i see how so many people on here(including posters who otherwise seem to know their stuff) are predicting Kotelnik to beat Khan.
Don't get wrong i respect Kotelnik and know he is a capable enough performer, and i'm also well aware of Amir Khans weaknesses.
But nothing that Kotelnik brings to the table should worry Khan. I'd be more wary of Kotelnik if he brought any kind of real firepower to take advantage of Amir's fragile chin. But to put it bluntly he doesn't. He has decent pop, but is mainly a tidy boxer who is solid and technically sound, but not 'special' in any area.
Khan on the other hand is undoubtedly 'special' in some area's. His hand and foot speed are unquestionably amongst the fastest in the sport. Add to this his excellent technical ability, combination punching and much improved defense and i truly do not see how Kotelnik goes about beating him.
I fully expect to see Khan basically blitz Kotelnik with speed. Landing punches and being gone before Kotenik has a chance to retaliate. His movement will give Kotelnik fits and it'll feel alien for a neat boxer like Kotelnik to find himself being hammered with punches he doesn't see coming. He's not used to being hit much, but he'll find himself getting hit a stack against Khan.
Now please don't get the idea i'm some delusional Khan fan who thinks this guy is a superman. I'm not and never have been. From the moment i saw his legs wobbling all over the show in one of his final amateur fights i knew it was a matter of time before we witnessed him get sparked as a pro. Amir will always been at serious risk against any opponent with a punch. But Kotenik is not the guy to expose the major chink in his armour.
On the contary i think Kotelnik is made for Khan to look good against. A respected opponent but one who will be outsped, and even if he does land something on Khan he lacks the power to really make any kind of lasting dent. A flash Kd is a possibility but no way in hell do i see Kotelnik being able to stop Khan. And no way in hell do i see Kotelnik having the boxing ability to outland/outbox/outanything Khan to a decision win. In fact i will be somewhat suprised if Khan even loses a round here.
I envisage Khan having his way with Andreas, outboxing and outspeeding him for as long as it lasts. Kotelnik has always demonstrated a solid chin, so unfortunately for him he may find himself subjected to a 12 round biffing.
Now course i know there will be those here who disgaree entirely with what i'm saying and i can respect that. But best thing about this debate is we get to see whose right or wrong soon enough.
Now who agrees with me? And who doesn't?

Re: Not only will Khan beat Kotelnik....
I will make a point...
As far as power goes, Kotelnik has more than Limmond or Gomez so he can spark Khan in my opinion.
Also, Kotelnik dealth with Witters speed easily enough. Khan is fast, but also a bit amateurish in style and hasn't fought against as good a technical boxer as Kotelnik.

Khan is very green, and a questionable Chin.
Not half as bad as many make out to be imo, but still has question mark.
So Kotelnik has every chance Khan has imo

Khan can beat anyone on his day but he can also lose to anyone, how anyone can have any confidence of him doing anything is beyond me, he could easily be knocked out in the 1st round and he could just as easily completely out box Kotelnik and make him look like a nobody. Makes for a good exciting fight thoughlurkyshaka wrote:...but it will be easy or at least thats the way it will appear.

We all know Khans strengths and weakness's he has very fast hands but so did Witter and Kotelnik dealt with him reasonable well he has a poor chin but Kotelnik doesnt have a great punch he may be put down but i dont see him getting stopped in this one also he has good fitness but so does Kotelnik this will be a very close fight I see Koelnik being a bit to expierenced for a still green Khan close UD I think
Re: Not only will Khan beat Kotelnik....
I have changed my mind on this a few times. I think Khan will stop Kotelnik with swarming punches, on his feet. I only think Kotelnik will take Khan out if Khan runs out of ideas or gets complacent and makes a mistake. You have to assume under Roach that Khan's defence (the openness of it and the lack of one was one of his big problems) will have improved. And Kotelnik has such a low workrate, where it's almost certain that Khan will be ahead after five rounds. One of the big questions for me, is if Khan will switch off it he can't break Kotelnik's earmuffs. In my opinion it's a 50/50 fight, and if it goes past eight rounds I believe Khan will lapse and be took out, perhaps with one shot. But I have to go with my gut, and it's telling me Khan will slip Kotelnik's guard and make his legs dip and Khan will swarm him, then the referee will stop it.
And Kotelnik is a very decent champion, so Khan will get big kudos from me if he wins, by whatever means.

Re: Not only will Khan beat Kotelnik....
I see and respect the comparisons with how Kotelnik dealt with Witter's speed and so the assumption being he can deal with Khans.
But here is the difference.....
Witter is fast, but he doesn't throw in combination like Khan. He is not as flighty as Khan, and he is nowhere near as busy as Khan. Add to that i think its highly likely Witter went into his fight against Andreas a bit complacent and probably overlooking his opponent, and i think the comparison between Witter and Khan are a bit overstated really.
Honest to goodness, as bad as Amir's chin is....and i do think its p*ss poor when all is said and done. Kotelnik lacks whats required to take advantage of it. He doesn't hit all that hard, and he's not the busiest fighter in there either.
Ideally Andreas likes to take his time and pick and peck away. But he's just not going to get a moments thinking time against a guy as quick fisted and busy as Khan. I just suspect Kotelnik will be completely befuddled when faced with the speed and workrate of Khan. Yes Khan's chin is fragile, but he has learnt how to protect it better, and even if he does get nailed by Kotelnik, i'm confident he'll be able to survive the danger.
Thanks for the input fellas, appreciate the thoughts.

don't forget Khan wasn't caught cold against Prescott, he was wobbled by the very first jab, so there's a big chance he'll get caught again and stopped, particularly with the step-up in weight. On the other hand he could go in and blow Kotelnik away in round 1.
Could go either way, but my money would be on khan

Re: Not only will Khan beat Kotelnik....
Prescott is a genuinely big hitter. He may or may not go onto achieve himself(my best guess is he won't really) but his power is real. Khan came out aggressively and walked right into Prescott's power. And against a guy as powerful as Prescott Khan will always be in serious danger.martinmrts wrote:don't forget Khan wasn't caught cold against Prescott, he was wobbled by the very first jab, so there's a big chance he'll get caught again and stopped, particularly with the step-up in weight. But Kotelnik just doesn't carry anywhere near that kind of dig. He's predominantly a tidy boxer, and nobody is going to be outboxing Khan anytime soon. The kid is too fast for that.
You've got to have power and then nail Khan on the chin with it to beat him. And there are lots of fighters out there with the genuine potential to do just that. But Kotelnik isn't one. Just not powerful enough. He has some skill but will find himself simply outsped and chasing shadows.
I cannot see this being anything other than a walk in the park for Khan due to the style matchup.

you mean, like the notorious powerpunching dynamo Willie Limond? you mean career 140lber Kotelnik doesn't hit as hard as career superfeatherweight with 5 stoppage wins Willie Limond? you recall, he's the one had Khan all over the place.lurkyshaka wrote:

Re: Not only will Khan beat Kotelnik....
What I mean is it wasn't a case of losing early to a lucky punch to an otherwise inferior fighter. From the moment Prescott's first jab landed and Khan's legs wobbled it was clear that there would only be one winner. Kotelnik, at a higher weight, will probably land one sooner or later - will Khan be able to take it this time ? I hope so - British boxing could do with a shot in the arm at the moment, and a charismatic champ like Amir Khan could only help attract tv companies in the futuresg1985 wrote:how can you say he wasn't caught cold?martinmrts wrote:don't forget Khan wasn't caught cold against Prescott, he was wobbled by the very first jab, so there's a big chance he'll get caught again and stopped, particularly with the step-up in weight. My prediction:
Not only will Khan beat Kotelnik...
But he will also duck tomorrow's Ortiz-Maidana winner, a WBA eliminator between two genuine power punchers, one of whom extended Kotelnik to a very narrow decision win.
Hasn't Warren said that Khan will win the title and then drop back down to lightweight?

Its boxing and even a light hitter can hurt an opponent if they land the right leather. But barring a perfect punch i don't see Kotelnik being able to hurt Khan anywhere near enough to give him a real shot at beating him.
But given your tone i take it you are giving Kotelnik an excellent chance against Khan? Are you actually picking Andreas to win?

Re: Not only will Khan beat Kotelnik....
I may be wrong but didn't Khan go over and nearly out from one or two clean shots from Limond? How does that equate to Kotelnik having to hurt Khan 'enough'? If he hits Khan, he will hurt him. At some point in this fight, Kotelnik will hit Khan. Trust me, Amir can't stay safe for the whole fight...lurkyshaka wrote:I sense sarcasm....no need.Counter-puncher wrote:you mean, like the notorious powerpunching dynamo Willie Limond? you mean career 140lber Kotelnik doesn't hit as hard as career superfeatherweight with 5 stoppage wins Willie Limond? you recall, he's the one had Khan all over the place.lurkyshaka wrote:

Luckyshaka, you don't seem to be able to grasp simple points. You are arguing that Limmond hits harder than Kotelnik.
Think about that.

Re: Not only will Khan beat Kotelnik....
Doesn't Kotelnik have a similar amateur record to Khan? He has also certainly proven himself as a professional at the highest level. I haven't seen him recently but, assuming he is not getting over the hill, the way I see it is he just needs to keep his hands up while Khan throws his flurries and then time him with clean shots (which he is a good enough boxer to land) and he will eventually get Khan out of there. It's true though that khan is gowing up a bit, maybe he will get his man strength at last and surprise everybody (well, those that think he'll lose).

Re: Not only will Khan beat Kotelnik....
Kotelnik isnt a big puncher but I think he has more power than Limond and possibly as much as Gomez so he could stop Khan. He certainly has good skills and boxed his way to victory against the fast hands of Gavin Rees over 12 rounds. I dont see this as an easy fight for Khan but you never can tell. Khan likes to start fast whereas Kotelnik seems to prefer to start slower, and this may give Khan the advantage. Very hard fight to predict but I believe Kotelnik will prevail.

Floyd is the greatest defensive boxer there's probably ever been and yet he takes a few incoming in every fight. This would mean that even if Khan had his abilities he would still get caught. Now when you've been dropped by Watson (amateurs), Limond and a well past it Gomez you can be dropped by anyone. The higher you climb up the rankings the higher the abilities your opponent will have. Amir can dance and move all he wants but anybody in the top 10 lightweights only needs to clip him once and he'll be on the canvas, lucky shot or not.

Khan will win convincingly and hopefully get some of the critics off his back. Someone else said it on another khan link. the british people love an underdog, and khan isnt an underdog, thats why alot of people dont like him. Barrera never mind how old he is, got demolished by khan, he was lucky to get cut and be able to make excuses about his loss otherwise he would have been humiliated.
Khan gets hit once in a fight and the commentators start saying he's struggling, forgetting that the other guys been hit about a 1000 times and about to keal over.
You look at prescotts record and theres a big question - why hasnt he had a world title shot? the answer is- he knocks everyone out in minutes and other promoters dont want to touch him. I bet you this, if khan gets the belt, which he will. One of his title defences will be against prescott. Big money ppv.
