Mirovic-Hopoate on July 23!

By Ray Wheatley — World of Boxing

The rematch between former Australian heavyweight champion Bob Mirovic (29-20-2, 20 KOs) and John Hopoate (11-3, 11 KOs) will be contested at the AIS stadium in Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, Australia on July 23. Leading Australian promoter Fidel Tukel of the BHS gymnasium got the signatures on the contract Sunday and this clash will be televised on the Channel Ten free to air television network. “I am looking forward to this rematch - I will be 100% fighting fit on July 23 when I jump through the ropes,” said Mirovic. “I had a few problems when we boxed last time but there will be no excuses this time.” (Hopoate was declared the winner in round nine in September 2008 when Mirovic’s trainer former three time world champion Jeff Fenech signaled to the referee Bob was in no condition to continue.) Hopoate is coming off a recent second round knockout loss to former WBC heavyweight champion Oliver McCall in Las Vegas in May. Mirovic has boxed several world class heavyweights including WBA heavyweight champion Nikolay Valuev, Shane Cameron, Kali Meehan, Danny Williams, Timo Hoffman, Matt Skelton, Rob Calloway and Sinan Samil Sam. “I lost on points - in good fights to Valuev, Hoffman, and Calloway. I will have to much experience at the top level for Hoppa.” ” I will be the winner on July 23,” he concluded.

Oh well, one of them gets to retire after this. But it still wont prove who the best Heavy in Aus is.

Great fight on the undercard tho.

Heaps of people have beaten Mirovic, Id rather watch Hoppa then Mirovic. If Meehan was a true representer of Aussie how come he has no desire to fight for that belt does the Australian Heavyweight Champion count for nothing. Apparently he wants to fight for the NZ title...what does that say?

UMM he's won the Australian title twice and has never fought for the NZ title yet, your not very good at this are you? :shame:

Kali Meehans stats click and open it up. check the dates around the year 2000.

Mirovic is 43 dude, give the guy a break, I want him to retire as well, but i feel as though your still somehow gauging his ability from his most recent fights..... he's 43 and entitled to a couple of losses. Bob for fucksake retire. :o

Big Bob reminds me of the knight on the bridge in the Monty Python: Holy Grail film, losing limb from limb. He justn't know when to give up!

Yeah, judging by the fact that he's grosselly inacurate about his boxing knowllege, i would say he's a 16 year old kid here to stir shite, he kept quoting some guy with a completely different last name to Fitzsimmons as his evidence that Fitzsimmons was from NZ, i found this very amusing and I'm pissed off i never got to qoute him that i know Jay friend who's Muhammad Ali' son, he said Foxdog 1923 was full of shite when i called him up and asked him if there was any truth to Foxdog 1923 claims,Him and Muhammad Ali were laughing at Foxdog 1923 in the background

Lets hope this is the last we hear of Foxdog1923.

Houndog did you know that you could be related to somebody and have a different surname? Yep you can mate, like your 1 of your Uncles might have a different surname to yours.
If you dont believe I know his nephew then whatever makes your cup of tea.
Anyway I just wanted to apologize to anyone I offended, yes even you Houndog. I didnt come on this forum to type tough I came on to discuss what I know and do and thats boxing. I love boxing and yous do too, as a fighter I regret any negative remarks I might've made about another fighter. Its never easy boxing theirs always something to work on and all the good boxers I know work very hard at trainning, which is the case for all of Aussies elite.
I know Australia has great trainers Ive sparred with guys that have been over there and from there. The guys that come back always have something new or have improved on something old. My trainer will tell you that he taught them everything and when they went to Aus they just practised it very hard lol, but my trainer is great he's the man-maker. Im sorry if you feel I've offended your country and its athletes.

Hey good enough for me, i have to say i do like a good scrap tho, as i said in the PM, I've got no beef with you, I'm sure it's just the way you take the piss, that rubbed me up the wrong way.
More people on this forum the better IMO. Especially passionate people.
Just for the record Foxdog I don't talk to Ali, who does? it was a joke to highlight how easy it is to run off an obscure name and attach it to someone famous.
