I am a boxing fan, I love boxing and everybody in the office knows it.

A conversation with occasional boxing fans (only the household name fans) cropped up. I was only embrolled in it due to my well known love of the sport. Anyway, as these three guys know that Amar Khan fought at LW normally, but was fighting for a world title at LWW.

They asked me why he has a shot at a title above his division. Understand that these are Football fans, so these guys look at divisions as terms of ability.

But it leads to a very good question/observation. If occasional fans can't understand the politics of boxing and can't figure it out, and I can't detail the specifics or a rule why Amar Khan is going for a LWW world title, what hope do the boxing authorities across the globe have to increase the popularity of the sport.

This leads to my next thought. Do you think the reason why Hatton was so popular in this country to non boxing diehards was due to the fact that he always fought for the p4p status against the best percieved fighters.

Sorry, not a discussion point, but I have had a long hour discussing this with football fans and needed a sounding board!

As a boxing fan I would assume that you know it is spelt AMIR Khan.

Ricky claims to have fought for the p4p title (despite it being mythical) only twice, in the latter stages of his career. He was massively popular before his win against Kostya Tszyu. which was the first time he was really considered a pound 4 pounder, although his attitude of fighting the best no doubt helped his reputation.

Amir is going for the LWW title simply because he and his promoter see it as an "easier" route to a world title. I think he will stick at LWW as the weight will suit him far better.

Boxing authorities across the globe are interested in only money and free international travel. They couldn't give a rat's arse about the sport otherwise they'd work together. While there's no legislation in place to stop them it will carry on, forever. Sad but true.
