The only problem I have with Pacman

Is.. this catchweight BS.

You want to fight Cotto, Mosley etc. FIGHT THEM AT THEIR WEIGHTS. None of this catchweight BS.

There is a reason Cotto and Mosley fight at 147. I respect what Pacman is doing and definitely respect what he has done. He is king at 140 now and he is the money fight around that weight. Pacman is pound for pound number one and he has to go around making people come down in weight! You're the best, then fight the 147 pounders at 147. If not, stay at 140. It's almost like ADMITTING that he can't beat Cotto or Mosley at 147.

Pacman made his name by moving through the weights and fighting the best AT THEIR WEIGHT. It's criminal to make Cotto come down to 143. Imagine Federer saying to Roddick... "You can't go over 100mph on your serve or I won't play you". It's ridiculous and bad for the game imo.

But Cotto and Mosley want Pacquiao just as much as Pacquiao wants them. And 'meeting in the middle' is probably the only way these fights will happen. Pacquiao is too small for a healthy welterweight and 140lbs is too hard to cut for Cotto and the likes. The thing to do is get it at a catchweight. IMO.

Pac can make 147 if he wants. He did so against DLH. Cotto will be weight drained at 143. We'll have another DLH spectacle. And what happens is, Pacman won't get the true credit he deserves because everyone will just say Cotto was weight drained, like they do with DLH.

The pound for pound king is afraid to fight the 147 pounders at their own weights and gets away with adding stipulations because he is pound for pound number 1. At least Marquez is going up to 147 to fight Floyd.

Pacquiao can makes 200lbs if he wants, but he's trying to give himself a chance. A strong as hell de la Hoya or Cotto would spank him. For me, all he's trying to do is make these fights happen. If he was pulling people out of their natural weight division then why didn't he drag Hatton down to 138lbs? Pacquiao could still make lightweight, you know.

And what was your prediction before Pacquiao and de la Hoya? It would be nice for you to back it up with a past post.

If Mayweather jr wanted the fight at 175lbs, Marquez would still take it.

I disagree with it too, Hopkins takes advantage of the catchweight BS as well.

If Cotto and Mosley disagree with the weight, then say no. But it all comes down to money. The very thing that will one day spoil boxing, if it hasn't already.

I feel the big fights are at WW and he is a LWW so why not make a catchweight it makes less of an advantage either way

The Pac-Cotto fight has been agreed at 145, not 143. That shouldn't be too hard on Cotto, as he weighed in at 146 for the Clottey fight.

Yes the PACMAN vs COTTO Fight is at 145 lbs!

If your going to Post on here criticizing Pacman at least get your Facts right

Considering Cotto Wieghed in at 146 lbs for his last fight, 145lbs is hardly a problem.

Also Pacman weighed in at 142 against Oscar at a 147lb Fight and 138 against Hatton at a 140lb Fight so is not Big enough to make 147lb and fight at his best

The 145lb Agreed on weight is there to Stop COTTO from coming in too heavy for the actual Fight at his usual 160+ lbs so this weight will make it Fair for Pacman.

Just so you haven't Forgotten, Pacman is an ex FLYWEIGHT!

I think Pacman could beat Cotto at 147. Shane would be a competitive fight, but I'd probably favour pacman again. What he is doing is draining the welterweights to get an advantage and put them at a disadvantage. He is the supposed pound for pound king. And fighting Hatton at 138 would have been a preposterous thing for Pacman to suggest. My prediction was a DLH victory as were 99% of peoples predictions. I lost a lot of money on the fight. Should have been smarter and realized the weight was going to be a huge issue and it was.

The fact that it's at 145 is even more scumbaggy imo. Why not just have it at 147? Pacman can't call himself a welterweight champ until he beats the welterweight champ AT 147 pounds.

You're the pound for pound number one and you need to stipulate that people should drain themselves. Ridiculous. I don't care if its one pound or two pounds, it's still weak from Pacman.

I agree that the fight should have been made at 147 lbs. I would be quite happy for sanctioning bodies to disallow catchweights. But it's not Pacquiao who made the fight, or negotiated it.

Yes but the Fact is that Pacman isn't a Welterweight.

I'm sure that if this Fight was a Same day weigh in than Freddie Roach would have No Problem with Fighting at 147lbs

Do you think its Fair that if you Weighed Pacman and Cotto minutes before the Fight, Pacman would weigh around 147 lbs and Cotto around 160 lbs

Thats 1 Fighter fighting another 2 weight classes Higher? Even at 145lbs theres's still going to be a 10 lb weight difference for the Fight.

At some stage the fighter has to take responsibility. I remember people used to justify Hattons 40-0 WBU BS reign by saying he had no choice and it was down to the promoters. The fighter has an input though. And Pacman should be insisting on a 147 pound fight.

As regards the weight issue, I would say that if Pacman wants to fight a 147 pounder, step up and fight them, after all, that's how he made his name. He weighed 152 on fight night against DLH I believe, and Oscar weighed 147. He is the same height as Cotto and they have the same reach. If he's not confident enough to fight at 147 pounds, then don't. Just don't start stipulating that fighters WEAKEN themselves in order to fight you, because as pound for pound champ, it really makes you look weak. Just my opinion though.

145 is okay - I think Cotto can be strong and healthy at 145, any lower and he is being unduly handicapped.

Pacman is moving up way past his best weight to fight Cotto, so I think 145 is fair.

yes Pac is the big name right now, and they are not. So if they want it they have to meet in the middle to let it happen. It's a shame there isn't a big name at their own weight or a couple of weights up. Right now though, the fights are at risk of being tarnished i.e. Pac smashing up "empty" fighters who canot do the weight without losing something. But that's their problem and Pac goes laughing all the way to the bank.

I am very happy with it being at 145lbs. To me, it's a fight that can go both ways. Pacquiao could be too quick and too powerful and get Cotto out of there inside six rounds or Cotto could spank Pacquaio out of there. If anyone think there's a clear winner here, then show me your betting slips.

Cotto/Pacquiao at 147lbs, and I fear for Pacman. Losing those two pounds makes this a closer fight.

EXACTLY.....If someone had mentioned this as a possible Match up 2 years ago, we all would have laughed at the mere idea of it.

The Fact its being Made now at only 2lbs less than Cotto's Best Fighting weight is pretty Amazing in itself and tell's you how Great Pacman actually is.

For Pacman to go from Flyweight Champion to Welterweight Champion would Probably be the Greatest Acheivement in Boxing History.

If it's at 145lbs then this shouldn't be a WBO title fight. If it is, then that's a massive joke.

It is a pity that should Pacman win he can't say he beat the man at 147 but the point of catchweight fights is to make fight that otherwise couldn't be made.

It would be preferable as mentioned if the fight was at 147 & the compromise Cotto had to make would be a fight night weight limit. Which when this was discussed before i said i think would be a good idea for all title fights.
