McDonut for the English belt is perfect, but if he can get a shot at the Irish title on the McIntosh/Cleverly card then that's perfect as well. Barrett or McKenna are two fighters that spring to mind. Fury beats them both in style in my opinion.

I haven't see Barrett to be fair but Timlin is awful. Fury would walk through him in a single round. It's about time they made the Irish heavyweight title vacant anyway, regardless of who contests it. Fury V Kenna anybody??

I seen him fight a while back when he first turned pro at York Hall - I actually think that fight was on the BBC - it was on the undercard of Stephen Smith v Alan Bosworth fight - what a fight that was!!!

Anyhow back to Barrett - sorry just look at his record and the longevity of that record will tell you all you need to know!!!

fury needs to take his time,when 4 rounds is as far as you've gone(weither it be by ko)a seasoned vet may get him in deep water in the later rounds,its managements decisions now that make green fighters see red!Fighters are always confident,wouldn't be there otherwise,time a little more time imo.

Tyson is an Irish-origined traveller as I understand.

By the way Mikkel Kessler has an English mother - but I bet you wouldn't class him as English. The whole nationality question is full of pitfalls and differing opinions and stances. If he's eligible to fight for the Irish title than so be it.

On another question, isn't Coleman Barret FRancis Barrett's brother or cousin? And whatever happened to him?

Tyson considers himself as Irish if not more Irish than he does British. He has also represented Ireland internationally at amateur level. Only an ignorant bigot would want to deny him the right to fight for the title of "his" country.

Coleman and Francie are cousins. Francie retired a few years ago and now is involved (to some degree) with promoting.

The Irish Olympic boxing team selectors didn't seem to think that Tyson was very Irish

Actually they did. My understanding of the situation was that it was the Holy Trinity club in Belfast that protested about him.

The IABA allowed him to represent Ireland in two internationals (v. USA and Poland I think). He living and training in Ireland at the time and was registered to fight in the national Elite finals which was the Irish qualifier for the Olympic qualifiers. Then a few days before he was to fight the Holy Trinity club, where Cathal McMonagle (the reigning Irish champion) trains, lodged a protest about him and wanted to see birth certs.

Like many people from the travelling community documentation isn't as straight forward as those from the settled community because originals get lost etc. The Fury's traced the original birth cert to the records office in Galway and they drove down to get it only to be told on arrival that it was destroyed in a fire in the 1970's.

Now thats the version of the story that I was told.

he was a cruiserweight then, and a non punching one at that. its all prety sad, a below average pro, with little channce of progressing beyond area level, trying to climb aboard the tyson fury gravy train to make a few bob.
