I really dont think there is any comparison between Gaza, Best and Hatton, being drunk on TV twice a year is a long, long way from what Gaza and Besty were up to. (knocking their wifes about, drinking alone in bed etc)observer1 wrote:

well quite, except with footballers and boxers, where 90% of the population know whats best for them and think its abhorrent that they should go out and do exactly the same things they probably do every weekend.banjo wrote:I suppose it depends on what you want really doesn't it? Spud,
I agree thats its not the lifestyle that he should lead, being a pro fighter etc etc.
My point is, he has what - maybe one fight left? it's all a bit late in the day for criticising him now on a subject that we have known for a long time.
I dont think he's a martyr for how to live your life from a healthy point of view, but he aint running over old people in his Range Rover, hiding coke in his garden, molesting beauty queens in a hotel room or attacking staff in a Spanish brothel.
Only last week, another pro from this country was arrested and charged with attempted murder with a hammer or summat.
He gets drunk and a little fat inbetween fights and suddenly there is bloodshed on the forums![[icon_e_biggrin.gif] :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)

I think people are writing him off WAY to quickly.... I would be more concerned had the fight gone as I expected, a gruel KO in 8 to 10 rounds. He took 4 or 5 big shots, got KO'd. That shouldn't have taken alot physically from him.
Re: Hatton & Cakes
True, although i dont think he was a bad person deep down, just down to circumstances where he ended up as a youth. Then again we can say that about a lot of fighters who end up in the poo.Khaosai-Galaxy wrote:

A good post Gomez - and to be honest in the normal sort of life Hatton is doing nothing wrong - but - he s a professional boxer and he is one who is very good and he is also a person who wants to be known and respected as a great - and to put a simplistic view on things - his life style means he will never ever be that.G0mez wrote:Spud,

His achievements are fantastic in regards to boxers coming from this country - but then you mention Hatton in "a world great" terms - I honestly think his lifestyle has put paid to that.

What has changed recently to make you realise that Hatton is throwing his career, talent and chance of greatness away?... He has always been the same as far as I can tell.
All that has changed (from my perspective) is that you are no longer on the payroll.
Did you ever raise these concerns with Ricky directly or were you too busy enjoying your ride on the gravy train to voice dissent?
Maybe I am wrong. Is there more to this than there appears to me on the surface Spud?

Whether you are correct or not concerning your assumptions about me - its clearly not relevant when discussing Ricky Hatton's diet - its a rather shallow argument to deflect things onto me when we are discussing Ricky Hatton - you have written on this thread, why dont you answer properly the subject matter in hand?
But I will amuse you - No I clearly did not voice my concerns about Ricky Hatton when you state I was on the payroll - although I was never on any Ricky Hatton payroll - seen as you are seem to continually be - I will also be pedantic by stating it was Fight Academy I had an association with - but back to your question - Terry I will answer by stating - would you go into your boss and state - I think you have a problem with your diet and you drink too much? - no you wouldnt and nor would anyone else - you would use your common sense by waiting for the correct opportunity as you would not want to lose your job and in this case - I worked on a massive Hatton fight in Sheffield, worked on a show in Monte Carlo where is brother fought and then went to Las Vegas twice - why on earth would I criticise Ricky Hatton to jeopordise those trips? - I will further qualify that by stating we all work with people all the time that we could criticise in some way - however sometimes we button it as it would be foolish to do otherwise.
For the record - and if you read this thread and read my posts - I have stated I believe Hatton's achievements as a British boxer are very good indeed and the money he has earned is fantastic - but like a lot of boxers, Hatton will tell you he wants to be remembered as a ring legend and what I am stating is due to his diet, that has severly hampered his ambition in my view - there has been many occasions I have stuck up for Ricky Hatton and I would do so again in the right context.
However after viewing Ricky Hatton's interview on camera again - bearing in mind the manner of his defeat against Pacman - and in addition a possibility of him coming back to fight at "world level" - do you think it prudent for Hatton to be in the condition he is in now?

Stop Press: British Man Spotted Tipsy in Public, Appears Overweight.
Well, fancy that.
The propensity of the British public to sanctimoniously judge others never ceases to amaze me.
This seems to take it to a new level, though: Ricky Hatton, history’s worst monster for gaining weight and enjoying a drink, as judged by the heaviest drinking and fattest population in Western Europe.
It might be detrimental to his image as a professional promoter, and of course it isn’t going to do his athletic prowess any good, but it’s certainly not a “disgrace”.
The man clearly likes a drink, and struggles to keep anywhere near his lean weight, but he hasn’t committed any crimes, doesn’t conduct himself in a manner that brings shame down upon him in the way, say, Oliver Reed or George Best did, so really, since we live in a society which enshrines personal liberty, isn’t he free to make his own choices?
Like I said, Britain is one of the heaviest drinking nations in the world, and is certainly one of the fattest, so Ricky isn’t exactly an outlier. But of course, when it comes to celebrities, we somehow expect them to be beyond the temptations of us mere mortals, and since they’re in the public eye, they somehow must magically convert to a life of privation and abstinence.
It’s preposterous and hypocritical.

Yes but he's a professional sportsman who people pay to see perform first. If you expect people to pay to support you i think the supporters can expect you to try your best which means preparing the best.
I don't care that much because i'm not a Hatton (or any other boxer's) fanboy and his shortcomings limit his own glory but if he's done well enough for himself to be happy with that compromise fair enough.

Re: Hatton & Cakes
When has Hatton not entered the ring in good shape? You pay to see him perform. How he prepares for that is up to him. If that preperation leads to a poor performance, then he has a case to answer. But I don't think that any one who has ever been to one of his fights complains much about Hatton's level or the entertainment he provides.Shirow wrote:Yes but he's a professional sportsman who people pay to see perform first. Ricky Hatton: History's worst monstor
Re: Hatton & Cakes
He's always in good shape but that's led people to suggest that his training camps are for this sole purpose and that's why his skills haven't improved as he's moved up to top class.
Pacquiao gets a little pudgy between fights but his training camps are all about improving skills and getting in top condition and not dropping 25% of his body weight.
History's worst monster? Is there no middle ground? Lack of universal fawning worship isn't the same as condemnation you know.

PRO RUGBY PLAYERS? Utter nonsense its no different to a boxers life in its own way, when they are playing or training they live the life or they dont get picked simple as that.
In fact rugby is more stringent than boxing truth be known.
Ask Richard Cockerill (sacked by woodward), ask Matt Stevens (banned for two years world wide cant even pick a ball up in training not just a few months in a certain state), Ask Michael Lipman, Alex Crockett, Andrew higgins. Possibly all banned for two years as well pending. Ask Danny cipriani who got dropped not for drinking but for being out late 2 days prior to a game. Ask lote tuquiri recently booted out of the aussie squad for ill discipline and toldnot to come back, cancelled contract end of.
You are talking utter shite Banjo/ KG sorry. Got fornicate all to do with class system thats a real "chip on the shoulder" bullshit thing to say.
You think no working class lads play rugby then? Stupid comment by someone id expect to be a football fan. (god help us that is one sport that really makes my fornicating toes curl, wanna talk about lack of sporting professionalism i suggest you look there first).
You think Martin Johnson / Or Woodward would have put up with the guys in the world cup winning team getting pissed at innapproriate times you are fuckin mental .
There are times to do it and times not to, same in most sports you lot just make out that boxing is different Ive got news for you, it isnt.
Not these days and not for about 20 or so years.
Re: Hatton & Cakes
I concede that in past fights Hatton ballooning up between fights was a problem, but manageable. But that was before he systematically got his head weaved into the canvas, twice. Remember, he was a whole heap younger then with that burning desire that helped him get to 10st. I can't see Hatton fighting again. I can't see how he can replicate that kind of motivation knowing that training non-stop could still see him knocked out in a few rounds. In my opinion, it has been detrimental to his career ballooning up so much this time. In five years I can see him weighing 16st, easily. And psychologically, he must be feckered. It's a shame he will go out with a horrific KO.
