Biggest character in boxing history.

My pick would have to be Don King.
He is boxing. Like him or loath him, over the last 30yrs he has been a player.

Characters I mean, Jack `Doc` Kearns was a bigger character than the ones you mention, and I would put even him behind the irrepressible Mr King.

I can't believe that nobody has mentioned Jorge Paez. Didn't he invent the whole words shaved into the hair/glittering shorts 19 sizes too big routine?

Paez was always on TV in North America in the early 90's because he would have slogans shaved into his hairdo and he wore giant trunks that always seemed to be some tacky colour. He was the first boxer that I ever saw who got coverage more for his appearance and antics than his skill.

Im with Tootall. Paez gets my vote. Looked like an imbecile....but could fight. Former circus boy with a face only his mother could love. hasn't lost since 1999 and has been a staple of Boxeo shows until late last year. Getting huge local ratings....but there have been concerns of brain damage.

Yeah it was Max, and he took it to the ultimate extream, he was in a hotel when he suffered what turned out to be a fatal heart attack and when asked if he would like to see the house doctor he replied "no I'd rather see a people doctor!" :o

I guess his sense of humor was passed down to his son...(Jethro, on the Beverly Hillbillies was Max Baer, Jr.)

I think Archie Moore should get a respectfull mention. He was a poet and musician. He used to tour with Jazzman 'Lucky; Thompson who also used to return the favoure by playing at Moores training camps, whilst the old mongoose trained.

Moore also used to like to wear expensive silk robes into the ring and I'm sure he would sometimes wear a crown to!

Moore also did some great publicity stunts to get a shot at Marciano. He had photo's of himself taken dressed as a Sheriff, underneath he had printed WANTED ROCKY MARCIANO, or words to that effect anyway.
