Re: Recognize brilliance
A freakish talent, who'd be a much-more discussed fellow if he'd been around in a softer era. Think back on how many superb boxer-movers, in any weightclass, you've seen who also hit like a 154lb. version of George Foreman in the last thirty years. How many do you count?
Fell short in his two biggest fights, &, sorry, it does put a mark on him (if a little unfairly). He was great in both, though, & as I said --- the wrong era for him. Would be ranked a lot higher had he come along at most other points in the history of the collective 147-160lb. landscape.

- Been discussed ad naseum. You never provide any content to discuss, being of the new champ of cheap shot drive bys followed by the squealing of tires as you peel off into the woodwork.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Yes, my all time favorite, Yes, he could be hurt, No, he wasn't glass jawed & Yes, he was a God.

Did a much better job on Benitez, Duran, and even Hagler than did Leonard and helped put him into retirement to boot. Rather watch or post his fights than that cheapo video that blows your skirt up.
Re: Recognize brilliance
I liked Tommys fights. Very explosive.
When I think of Tommy , I have to include The Kronk Gym.
The gym was tough and it shaped him.I think that place along with trainer Manny Steward helped greatly.
I fought on the same card with some Kronk fighters in Chicago including Tommys brother Billy Hearns. Keith Vinning and Jackie Beard were the others.
I'll always remember what kind of a team those guys had. They had there stuff together.Real professional.Manny ran a tight ship I remember thinking. You see those guys all with the Marine colored jackets at the weigh in and it makes an impression. They were a great group. Really something special. It was 1983 though. Things aint the same anymore.
