Clinton Woods - Announcement soon.
Clinton Woods - Announcement soon.
According to teletext, Clinton Woods' promoter will be making an announcement concerning his future plans. Teletext seem to be thinking that his next fight will be an IBF title eliminator, possibly against Richard Hall.
What's happend to Rico Hoye who beat Hall in an IBF title eliminator back in may. It was supposed to be Hoye vs Woods in a final eliminator but that never materialised. Does the winner of Jones vs Johnson have to fight Hoye within a certain amount of days? I can't see either fulfilling that obligation. If Johnson beats Jones he will have bigger fish to fry than Hoye, likewise Jones.
Could be interesting developments. I wonder if Woods will be getting a title shot sooner than we think - if he wins his eliminator perhaps a match with Hoye for the vacant belt.

Cannot see Woods beating Hoye if they fight, Hoye is powerful and a big puncher and is on his way up after stopping Hall..Woods on the other hand is on his way down after two disappointing fights with Glen Johnson. I don't think Woods quite has the hunger to make it at world level anymore, if he ever did have it in the first place.

I'm not sure why everyone is so down on Woods. After he fought Jones he got deserving credit (both here and stateside). Then he got his lucky decision against Johnson - still many considered him world class.
However, since his defeat people have been saying that he should pack it in and that he's not world class. In my opinion the second fight with Johnson was closer than the first, admittedly I think Woods should have won the rematch (cause Johnson didn't fight with the same intensity as before). However, I still think he did better than in the first match.
The closeness of the two fights with the current holder for me means he definately deserves to be in the reckoning for another shot. Hall pushed Dariuz close twice, thats why he's forever involved in the picture. Likewise, I would think Brodie would be back in the governing bodies' top ten should he return.
It only an eliminator fight we are talking about, if he fights and beats another fringe contendor then why shouldn't he be allowed to fight for the belt.

freakinell, Im have to say what are your guy''s problems with woods?
He is decent honest hard working pro, admittedly he doesnt deserve another shot quite so quick but this happens all the time, often to the detriment of British fighters, (Robert Allen geting another shot at hopkins instead of eastman for example).
Let me tell you this much, Clinton did not blow anything against the likes of Jones and Glencoffe Johnson they were too good on the night.
no disgrace there you are talking aobut two of the top guys out there, (i woudnt be that surpirsed if Johnson out muscels Jones neither) give Clinton a break.
personally Id like to see him fight JC then the winner go on to challenge Traver/Jonhson Jones et al.
be decent test for JC at l heavy.

Highlights the 'ease' of keeping a fighter active in MEANINGFUL contests.
Fight Academy are to be applauded for their management of his recent career.
This is not a fight for the mandatory as far as I can qualify. But for the number 2 position.
You wonder why Calzaghe didn't push to get a Woods fight....and opted to return to 'title' action for the WBO belt?
As a Light-Heavyweight contender, a Woods victory wopuld have legitimised his standing the in the division, given the British fans a menaingful contest between two fighters they know and generated a good purse for both fighters.
But Calzaghe lacks the humility to act like a contender and insists on this notion that he's a major box-office star. He isn't. He has the potential to be, but he needs to prove it in proper contests.
Currently, he roughly equates to Glasgow Celtic - they could go all season unbeaten in the league - but the best team in the world make them, that does not.
They can only prove their value by regularly playing and beating Champions League opposition.
Motherwell and Falkirk don't cut the mustard, and neither does Cabaret Saloon.
Clinton Woods isn't Real Madrid, but he's played in the Champions League three times in the past two years.

Nope - I'm not the missing member of Erasure nor am I Dale Winton's personal stylist and thus the pink hat was nothing more than a harmless diversion. Your obviously not the Only Fools advocate I suspected you were.
I will however be wearing my off the shoulder donkey jacket and sling back wellington boots.
