WTF is this? Leave out the IBF champ, and throw in some Middleweights? It's a good idea, but you have to have the 3 main champs involved. Not only that but most people, (including Boxrec) have Bute ahead of Kessler let alone Taylor, Dirrell and Ward. Ward? Really? I'd put Andrade in there before Ward or Dirrell. You want a battle for the best SMW? Start with Froch, Bute and Kessler. Crowds in Nottingham, Montreal and Denmark will be livelier than anywhere in the US any day.

I can see lots and lots of problems. injuries, early knock outs, Pavlik moving up in weight and being the biggest earner for all. Bute not being might hurt the legitamcy of it being for the best super middle.

But blimey, this would be fantastic for the sport....

This is EXACTLY WHAT BOXING NEEDS. Huge, huge props to the promoters and Showtime for making this happen. Someone there obviously has a real vision and love for the sport.

It's a bit much to ask of Froch to beat allcomers in this tournament, but if he did... Joe who?

It's hilarious but if Froch wins this he will have achieved more and be more well known than Calzaghe! Brilliant!

When you consider that Abraham isn't the best technically and was relying on his power and strength at 160, now coming up to 168, Froch can beat him.

Kessler has done nothing more than lose a close fight to Calzaghe. Froch can do him with pressure.

Dirrell can be done also.

It's not impossible for Froch to rule the 168 division.

It's an incredible blend of styles we have.

Personally I think Abraham may struggle a bit as he is shorter and relies a lot on his physical supremacy at 160lb - he'll be up against 6'1 Froch, Taylor, Ward and Kessler and I think Southpaw Dirrel is 6'2 - and they can all jab extremely well on their day. Kessler, Taylor and Ward especially are very jab happy.

At the end of the day though, Arthur may win the whole lot. That's the beauty of it all, apart from Taylor, everyone has an unbeaten record.

Infact, Taylor may well end up winning it - he has the skills and against the other fighters who rely on skill like Ward, he may have their number.

I wonder who has the best chin and the best power in the bunch?

Ward and Dirrell have both been dropped i believe already. Taylor has been crunched twice. Froch sat on his arse against Taylor.

I'd say Froch and Abraham are perhaps the most resilient. Froch was down off a shot that bounced off the top of his head while he was ducking forward with both feet together, otherwise he has took some real humdingers that would have put a khan-type to the graveyard. And Abraham, well he fought with a broken jaw against Miranda didn't he.

Kessler is probably the best blend of power, skill, speed and fitness - and his right hand is now fully healed. But he was rocked by Sartison by a rather innocuous shot in the opening rounds of their fight and something tells me he dont like getting hit. He switched right off against Calzaghe by the midpoint (maybe his pain killers wore off?) and was buzzed with a head and body shot. Maybe he is too pretty and i think a fighter like Froch could be his Achilles - and vice versa !

Their reluctance to face off against each other pisses me too.

Berto currently has the best belt, despite fighting nobody within the division. I dare say Collazo beat him too.

Cotto is the only one to do it and i think that it's more the case that Arum don't give a crap about him - hence his loyalty to Margarito to Cotto's disgust, then the catchweight fight for Cotto against Pacman (if it happens).

I see Cotto leaving Arum soon for GBP. Especially if the rumours are true.

Back to the 168lb division - they seem to have a depth of exciting, formidable talent, each with a desire to prove themselves (except Bute, whom despite his talent seems to prefer taking the gate money at the Bell Centre for the minimum risk in my opinion rather than step out and command the best fights).

Fighters who are willing to fight the best - such as Barrera etc will never have to buy a beer should they ever fall on hard times on account of the respect folk hold for warriors. Money is temporary whereas history is permanent.

A good example is Riddick Bowe, a decent fighter yet avoided Lewis big time and here is, selling autographed gloves at a car boots sale last month:-



He says he is broke. Well Tyson hasn't had a dime for years and i bet he's never bought a drink, hotel room, club entry or flight ticket for years because of what he gave the sport. Tyson is probably the reason all of us got into boxing. He certainly got the hairs standing up on the back of my neck when he was in his prime. Wheras Riddick Bowe will be remembered for dumping the world title in the trash can rather than face Lewis and not his epic Holyfield unification fight.

Cotto vs Margarito was a very good fight. Mosley vs Margarito was really good in the sense that Mosley completed defied the odds.
