Watch Calzaghe vs Mitchell and Calzaghe vs Kessler. Good fights, imo.
abraham and froch are going to "1984" him - write him out of history, out of memory, if all goes well

I'm totally hoping Froch wins this tourny because if he does, Calzaghe will be forgotten and Froch will be the new posterboy of British Boxing. Lets hope the fights get put on terrestrial TV and we get to see Froch calling Calzaghe out on terrestrial TV after he beats Kessler or even Dirrell. The bloke on the street would start thinking Froch was better than Calzaghe (given the hype that Froch will be getting).

It's concievable that Froch could "1984" Calzaghe. I'd love it.

Why didn't they just pick the best 4?

Have 2 semi finals on the same bill and then the final 4/5 months later? Or at worst have 8 fighters in a straight knock out tournament. This round robin format is ridiculous. There is no way this is going to happen.

Probably so that they could get a few yanks involved (Ward & Dirrell) and keep the US fans happy

the round robin format is good, because a loss doesn't mean the end. froch could lose to dirrell and still have a chance of beating WBA champ kessler. when good fighters fight, ppl do lose, and a loss shouldn't have to be the end.

Isn't it sad that Froch gets the biggest break of his career, but some people are more interested in speaking about Joe. Let Froch have his own career.

Pascal, Taylor, Dirrell, Kessler and Abraham... back to back. Froch is going to be punch drunk by the time this thing's done.

As for him eclipsing Calzaghe, the only wins on his ledger that trump the best names above are Hopkins and Lacy, Hopkins edged him imo and it's an unwinnable debate as to whether Calzaghe ruined Lacy or if he was all that special to begin with.

The only thing Calzaghe had that Froch cant attain is longevity as champ, and in Calzaghe's case, that's more of a testament to his unwillingness to fight overseas against the best of his generation (in their primes). WBOblivious.

It's just pie in the sky though, I've got my tongue firmly in my cheek because Froch isn't likely to come out on the other side of this tournament with his '0' intact, Kessler will probably be the one smelling of roses, which will only bolster Calzaghe's 'legacy'.

Can't quite believe all this will come off, it's hard enough in boxing for a single fight to hold together, let alone this lot - fingers crossed and whoever's in charge of co-ordinating this better get keep a large bottle of whiskey to hand.

Taylor's got a good shot at upsetting Abraham....

On balance, it's not a bad idea at all, I guess I just didn't think that Dirrel, Ward and Taylor have done quite enough to justify participating in a 'best of best' line up.
Now that the magnitude of the event is starting to sink in, I can't deny that it is a very exciting prospect.

Great idea imo find the best i the division I think AA should have a fight or 2 up at SMW to get used to fighting bigger guys. I think either Kessler or Abraham will win it, That would be a brilliant final. Cant see anyone leaving this with a 0

I love Carl Froch and I think he'd of beaten JC yesterday, tomorrow and years ago when it mattered, BUT his fight with Taylor was the worst Carl Froch we ever seen, and he was just lucky to pull it off in the end.

Needless-to-say, IF Carl fights that that next time out he's FINISHED!!!

the great thing is, that even the tournament winner will likely pick up a loss along the way. the days of the mythical unbeaten champ, the nondescript defence after nondescript defence, are long gone. props to all these guys for putting it on the line. none of the fighters knows what's going to happen, and no one has control over whom they're fighting.

Imagine 6-7 years ago Calzaghe was offered the chance to be in a tournament with Roy/Bernard/Tarver/Michaelchewski/Glen Johnson. "I'm scared of flying!".

But Frochy gets stuck in no matter who it is.

yep, bute's not the only one who would have "baulked" at the format you could argue

unbeaten records are a total myth. if joe wasn't in favour, hopkins or reid could well have got the nod.

even abraham, you could argue, only barely beat eastman and miranda the first time. i think aa's a potentially great fighter - and his KO of khoren the guyver looks even better now, with khoren apparently robbed vs sturm last weekend - but he hasn't been excellent in every fight. he'll be much better at super middle, IMO, hopefully as good as he was in the miranda rematch.

Perhaps more than Carl being bad, his level of opposition was just much better than normal. Just some food for thought.
