Hayes training methods
Hayes training methods
Does anyone know anything about Hayes conditioning work for fights? I know he spars alot and has been around the world sparring decent fighters but given his seemingly, lets be honest, shocking stamina levels last night his conditioning and fitness training must be brought into question. I know he trains at the Third Space gym in London which isnt a boxing gym, and Bunce said after the fight about him using 'fancy machines' or words to that effect. As a fitness instructor myself i'm very interested to know what he does in the gym, heart rate training, cv machines, resistance machines, what?
I think it was partly to do with nervous energy burning him up but also to give Carl credit it had a lot to do with The Cats punches!... the expression on Hayes face changed as soon as he tasted Thompsons punches.... he was hurt as early as the 2nd I think. Bad loss for him but he's young enough to come back and seems to have the right attitude which is half the battle in coming back from such a defeat. This defeat may actually be good for Haye... he'll either go up or down from here.

I read an interview with Haye in which he said he hates running and hardly done it as an amateur, if he hates it that much then you have to wonder how hard he is willing to push himself to gain the maximum fitness. It looks all a bit too relaxed in his corner, I think if he wants to make it he should change trainers and get someone who's really going to push him to his limits.
You only have to ask one question! Adam Booth, not exactly a great manager trainer of the 21st century. Its one thing getting a prospect and another coaching him to the top level.Sadly David has only himself to blame,he has toured the country sparring with cruiserweights for 3-4 rounds and he trained in a hotel for his last fight! He should have trained under a coach with lots of experience.Sadly the advice from his corner would have been "Thompson cant handle your power, blast him out" if this doesnt work refer to plan B,plan B is ,there is no plan B.

He hates running hard but is prepared to be a boxer and get hit. seems the wrong way around to me.Lefthookhappy19 wrote:I read an interview with Haye in which he said he hates running and hardly done it as an amateur, if he hates it that much then you have to wonder how hard he is willing to push himself to gain the maximum fitness. david haye has a major problem he thinks he is a playboy,i would imagine he goes out partying more than he trains and when he is in the gym thinks he is the man.david has learnt the hard way and will end up a old skint man[lets see if he is so keen with the ladies then].has loads of potential but will never fulfil it unless he devotes his life to what pays the bills and his pension fund.
Good point.adamiw wrote:i'd like to know of any training regime that allows a cruiserweihght (200lbs) to throw over 120 punches (everyone a bomb) in one round alone and not suffer.
Although, with Haye that is three times I have seen stamina cost him the fight, one was in a 5x3 round contest (I think) against a tough, but very limited US fighter on one of those USA vs GB shows that sky use to do and the other time was vs Solis.
If its nervous energy that makes him try and fight at 100 mph when the heat is really on (all three were big events) then it is quite possible that he will always react like this when the pressure mounts.
On Jodie Marsh, one couldn't help but notice quite how much she was drooling over Haye before the contest, I wonder is she turned her attention to Carl after the fight.

If you follow athletics it's what you might call the 'Jaime Baulch relay running' effect.stujones wrote: If its nervous energy that makes him try and fight at 100 mph when the heat is really on (all three were big events) then it is quite possible that he will always react like this when the pressure mounts.
.....
i remember reading somewhere that he likes to go to the gym and do weights and is not interested in too much cardio, hence the nice bulky physique.
it never occured to me before the fight (perhaps because had not been properly raised), that Hayes stamina would be a huge issue. But it was. And things can go two ways here, he drifts out of boxing or not bites the bullet and trains properly as a boxer should do and not as some one who wants to look buff for the ladies.
so much talent, so little effort.

After seeing Haye shoot his wad after two rounds, it was a real contrast to watch the classy Zsolt Erdei at work the next night - there's a fighter who knows how to pace himself.
He tried a few big flurries in the first two rounds, saw the guy wasn't going anywhere and switched down a gear, still controling the action though.
Every now and then he'd step it up, just seeing if his opponent was ready to go - as it happens, he wasn't, but it was a real master class and Haye should watch a tape of it.

you simply cannot be a boxer and not do any cardio.
nor a sportsmen in most cases to be fair.
he was flaggin half way through the 2nd, thats just under 5 mins of fighting, sorry but a top boxer should have more stamina than that regardless of how many shots he has thrown.
4.5 five mins with a minutes break is far too early to "blow up".
shame but david has the talent to come back from this, mnore worrignly on what im reading above is whether he is willing to change his training tactics to ensure he has the required levels of stamina.
i still have faith and hopefully this will be born out.

I saw Haye's bird jumping up and down at the fight. So he must still be with her. Now she's a nice looking gal. Used to go out with Thierry Henry apparently. However, Haye is renowned for his pulling power, so u never know what he's up to.jamesmcdonnell wrote:I thought Haye already had a girlfriend, surely Jodie was just a flag carrier?
Adam Booth is a dreadful trainer. Using all those fancy machines at the Third Space Gym and massaging his ego isn't gonna help. The time he spent with Danny Williams did no help at all. Dan was bulked up and lethargic when Booth had him for the second Sprott fight. Who's he proved himself with/ I've never seen him learning the ropes as another trainer's assistant when you should be taking it all in. He's one of the new breed who thinks he knows it all.
what do you mean by 'fancy machines'? If you're referring to cv equipment such as concept II rowers, cross trainers, stationary bikes these are excellent training tools for cardiovascular conditioning. Resistance machines less so but 'fancy' cv kit all compliment boxing training excellently. However, like any form of training, if they're not used effectively (ie the trainee not working hard enough) then of course you're not going to see the benefits.
I'm a Haye fan but just been on his website for the first time and its ludicrous. Pouting into the camera looking like a stock gayboy is frankly just embarrassing, he looks like an r&b crooner not a fighter. That alone gives plenty of ammunition to those who believe that Haye is more of an image obsessed hype job than a serious professional.
