Price and definatly whack, and has good boxing skills. There will be question marks over his chin until its been tested in the pro's.

Just want to see him back in the ring soon, he must be getting frustrated. And money is a factor as well, he can't live on nothing.

As soon as Magee-Quigley is rescheduled (if it is), expect Price to be on the bill.

Paul, what's the situation with yourself and your shot at Quigley? It seems quite a complicated situation now. Does Magee still get first shot at his old title even with the cancellation?

I understand mate, and I wasn't putting you down or being disrespectful, it's just my opinion and I believe in what I've seen in pricey's power. I've seen him flatten VERY VERY good fighters in the flesh with 18oz sparring gloves and headguards. Not mentioning names as it's unfair, but trust me it's the cream of the crop.

Just because A knocks B out faster than C did it.... doesn't mean B hits harder, if u get me  :KO:

Hayemaker will be desperate to retain Price as they need him for sparring for the Vitali fight. Hopefully they will have the decency to match him on the show as well.
I have often criticised Hennessy for not getting his boys enough work, but he has done a fine job with Fury so far, conversely I think Price has been treated pretty shabbily.
It highlights the problem of having a promotional team completely based around one fighter.

Tyson Fury in my view would beat David Price at this stage.

Another thing - Fury is being kept very active where as whats happening with David Price's career?? - its no good writing and talking about this that and the other - its whats happening in the ring that counts and how many times a fighter is getting his opportunities.

I would suggest "Meaty Mick" is managing and promoting Fury extremely well - where as, due to the collapse of Setanta in my view Hayemaker on the surface seem to be more concerned about David Haye and his career and the careers of the other fighters in the stable seem to be secondary!!! - perhaps Hayemaker should dip their hands in their very deep pockets and put on some "NON TV" shows.

I accept David Price was a tremendous amateur - but that was in the past and as a lot of people will state in the early stages of a boxers professional career whether its TV fights or not - a fighter has to be kept active so he can learn from the mistakes that he will inevitably make - look at the Olympic boxers - W arren is keeping his active and Maloney has Jaffa and Sutherland out on a regular basis - what is happening with Price?

By the end of this year we will be able to evaluate what is happening with those Olympic boxers and how far they have come on in their professional career - does David Price know when he is fighting next?

I agree, that's what it looks like to me, take the cancellation of their Liverpool show that was due to be on Setanta as an example. When Adam Booth was interviewed he always came across well, made all the right noises and said all the right things, that he and David were real boxing fans, that Hayemaker wasn't all about David and that they were a breath of fresh air in the world of boxing promotion. I've got to say that their first few shows really bore that out well.

To be fair, we are in the middle of the "off season", but a bit of news on their website, apart from about David, wouldn't go amiss.

The Forgotten Olympian - David Pryce

Post by El Raincoat »

The Forgotten Olympian

As taken from 15 rounds .com by Anson Wainwright

Whilst many of his team mates from the 2008 Olympics have enjoyed a bright start to there fledgling pro careers one man who hasn’t quite had the start to the pro’s he’d hoped for is Liverpool’s David Price. He debuted back on 28 March in front of his home crowd with an impressive high light reel third round KO of David Ingleby.

Since then things haven’t been so good for Price. He was due to again fight in front of his home town fans on 4 July but that card was scrapped when British Super Middleweight champion Tony Quigley was forced to pull out injured meaning at late notice no opponent could be found an the card was cancelled. Things took a further dent when Hayemaker backer Setanta recently went bust meaning even fewer dates on TV.

An upbeat Price understands the present economic situation and has remained loyal and patient outside the ring however inside he straining at the leash to get back into things and make his mark. He’s hoping to be back in action twice this year starting with a date still being worked out in October. He then hopes to continue a busier schedule which he hopes to then fight twice more early in the new year. He adds ” Its been a bit of stuttering start due to things out of my control. Its hard to take when I’m reading articles people write about the ‘Olympians’- and I don’t get a mention, especially when 12 months ago I captained the team and when I stopped the Russian (Super heavyweight gold medal favourite Islam Timurziev) I was arguably the biggest story of the whole Olympics on that particular day” He’s not bitter however and wishes his team mates, many of whom he has forged solid friendships with all the best. “To see all the others progressing while I’m twiddling my thumbs is naturally disheartening. Although I want all the lads to do well. All the frustration will become positive and hopefully the waiting round can turn out to be a blessing”

Back in May, Price undertook some valuable sparring in Cyprus as part of David Haye’s ultimately aborted Heavyweight title shot against Wladimir Klitschko. Price says of the sparring “Cyprus went well- good sparring with some seasoned heavyweights and it was a good yard stick for the level I’m capable of competing with now and in future. So I’m looking excitedly ahead to the new season and getting going again, and showing people what I’m capable of” Even without fixed dates Price is actively keeping in shape “I’m training twice a day and am improving all the time”

Actually one fighter who we recently interviewed, Tony Bellew a fellow scouser and up and coming Light Heavyweight who was a Heavyweight back in his amateur days says “David Price is a great talent. People don’t know just how good a Heavyweight he is. Even though he’s not getting a lot of front page news at the moment. I’ve sparred with him. David Price is probably the best conditioned Heavyweight in Europe. His conditioning is fantastic”

One thing you can always guarantee is that Price will remain a classy individual. Never looking to name call or bad mouth other individuals. He’ll quietly and surely keep working and improving and on his way to trying to get to his goal as being the next British Heavyweight King.

Talent will only get you so far, you need a promoter to get you work, or you risk ending up another Peter Oboh.
Getting quality sparring is essential to bring prospects on as the real learning is done in the gym at that stage, but just being used as a sparring partner is something else. I thought it was criminal he was in Haye's training camp, but they did not make room for him on the bill. Again it highlights the problem being in a promotional team which is completely based around one fighter.

I was impressed with him in his debut. OK, his chin will let him down at some point, but he could go quite far before that happens. He could do the best out of all our current heavyweights.

Like Naseem and Lewis, fighters always start up their own promotional companies vowing to revolutionise the game. The problem starts when they then realise that they may have to spend their own money as opposed to the television companies.

As it has transpired, Hayemaker had a heart attack and would rather let fighters waste away then spend their own money on progressing their careers- seems like Hayemaker have realised how the promotional game works.

The only boxer-promoter cross over I can see making it in the long term is Hatton. But it just depends how deep he's prepared to dig into his fortune to make it work. Team Calzaghe won't get past the Severn bridge.

The likes of Naseem only did it after he broke into the big time, solely to maximise his own earnings, rather than to establish his own stable. Hayemaker promotions reminds me very much of A Force promotions where they take on a stable, make all kinds of promises to fighters and to revolutionise the game etc but when it comes down to it, they only care about themselves.
From the outside it does look like Hatton promotions are willing to invest but it will be interesting to see how motivated they are after Matthew Hatton retires.
The Calzaghe's are doing it out of loyalty to the existing Newbridge camp, but seem only to be realising now that promotions is just like burning cash unless you have tv, and I don't think they will spend their own cash, esp in the light of Joe's missing millions from FW

A young prospect needs to be active. And the stress of wondering if you made the right move signing with somebody isn`t going to help much either. Certain aspects of the boxing game stink. How less tallented fighters get nurtured and handed easy oppurtunities and then real tallented prospects have a struggle just to get fights. :(

2 Good posts there, You wouldn't believe the promises some of these guys make to the fighters!! It's disgusting it really is!! Sends me round the bend sometimes!! Peter Oboh and Courtney Fry are prime examples!! Sad too cos both are/were good fighters!! :witzend:

People can call Maloney and Warren all they want but their olympic prospects are getting good tv coverage and press so really you would have to argue that Price should have gone down that route if it was open to him.
