John - Juárez II not for Super title

Post by claudevsq »

You have on your schedule for September 19th Chris John vs. Rocky Juarez for the WBA Super World Featherweight title. But it will be for the WBA World Featherweight title, please change. Chris John isn't the undisputed champion, contrary to some BS reports. He only got the "Super belt" after his 10th defence, but that's something else. He is the regular champion, and Gamboa is the interim champion. Ask the WBA if you want.

Not only BS. Every newspaper in Indonesia reported John was awarded the super title at the Ortiz-Maidana fight. I guess everyone is wrong?

I asked the WBA, and they told me that this was not the case. If it would, they would have it on their page. He was awarded the "Super belt" for 10 defences, but as far as I know, he's still the regular champ and Gamboa is the interim champ. In a week or so, we're going to see when the WBA brings out their new June rankings...

Oh, by the way, I just read your ESPN article, they only find it bad that the WBA has an interim champ at featherweight (like in so many other divisions) although Chris John is healthy and makes his mandatory defences... No word of undisputed champ in this article...

Everybody gets a "Super belt" by the WBA after 10 defences, but that's not the same thing as being "undisputed" or "unified" Super world champion.
