U.S.A Boxing Rankings?
U.S.A Boxing Rankings?
Does anyone know when they'll actually update the rankings and post them up on usaboxing.org?
Re: U.S.A Boxing Rankings?
It won't happen until the skeleton crew gets caught up on everything else and can write articles, post results, update the webpage, post the rankings and other things.
Re: U.S.A Boxing Rankings?
I know one thing, the golden gloves is not giving out points this year
Re: U.S.A Boxing Rankings?
USA Boxing includes the GG in its point system for rankings - unless that has changed.I know one thing, the golden gloves is not giving out points this year
Re: U.S.A Boxing Rankings?

Re: U.S.A Boxing Rankings?
What!????? How about the junior golden gloves? It's in a week and I was planning on going after this title boxing tournament . I'd it's not ranking then I'll just save my money , it's too far :(
Re: U.S.A Boxing Rankings?
Junior Golden Gloves may have its own rankings, however I don't believe this tournament factors into USA Boxing's JO rankings.I'd it's not ranking then I'll just save my money , it's too far

Re: U.S.A Boxing Rankings?
In the past, the J.O. Nationals and the Silver Gloves were the tournaments used for J.O. rankings.
In the seniors the idea of the Golden Gloves, which is the only other advancing tournament not to be pionts tournament is stupid. Why give pionts to the PALS or any tournament that you don't need to advance to the nationals. And then not give pionts for the Golden Gloves. That makes no sense.

Re: U.S.A Boxing Rankings?
They have been part of the ranking system until this year. It could be they were dropped since they refuse to use the computer system at their tournament. They also pulled their team out of the U.S. Championships this year and then decided, at the last minute, to add them. Doesn't make for good relations with USAB.And then not give pionts for the Golden Gloves. That makes no sense.

Re: U.S.A Boxing Rankings?
I have had a request for current rankings into USAB's media director for a couple weeks now with no reply. I have since contacted someone higher up for information. I don't understand why they can't recruit interns in this economy unless its for lack of effort, which is my guess. Sadly, USAB is not very good when it comes to promoting this sport and getting information to the few media outlets that have an interest.
Hell, I get more information off my occasional visits to this forum than I do from Colorado Spgs. Thank you all for that, by the way. You really are amazing sources.

Probably because the media director was laid off/fired during the U.S. Championships in Denver - and not replaced. There are currently 6 employees in COS - none of whom are responsible for the web site.I have had a request for current rankings into USAB's media director for a couple weeks now with no reply

Well that seems to reinforce my experience that the organization does not do well promoting the sport, Mel. Julie Goldsticker is the media director, as far as I know, and she seems to still be employed there since she took the time to send me an email upset with my - I think anyway - mild criticism. I never said that the fault was necessarily Julie's or hers alone, anyway, but the organization as a whole.boxmel wrote:Probably because the media director was laid off/fired during the U.S. Championships in Denver - and not replaced. If USA Boxing does not put people in place that can promote the sport it will continue to wither as it has now for more than a few years. A secret to no one, by the way. If "they" keep Julie busy on other projects or understaffs her dept that is the organization's fault and not reflecting on Julie herself.
Now, however, let me say this. Three emails and several weeks with no response to what would seem to be pretty simple inquiries that I made seems to me to be too long. I found it interesting that Julie could take the time, in less than 24 hrs of my posting and your forwarding it to her, to latch out at me in an email BUT still not respond to any of the questions that I posed over the past weeks.
My appreciation for the information obtained through this forum from persons such as yourself, Mel, stands.
Re: U.S.A Boxing Rankings?
Kevin - trust me Julie is not in USAB's offices. She was very upset about being laid off during the USA Boxing National Championships. If Julie responded it was just to defend herself.
Julie seemed to put together good news releases, magazine articles and the website. Later, others were hired to expand her efforts.

Re: U.S.A Boxing Rankings?
I don't think my original post was as critical of Julie as it was the organization itself. I have to plead ignorance here as I did not know of USAB's shakeup until I read posts in another string after posting my second msg.
Wouldn't you expect an organization to have some sort of auto-reply on the emails of those persons let go or some plan to handle their responsibilities? It turns out my timeline was wrong in my post. My first request for info related to two issues other than rankings including a question during my followup coverage of the US Championships was made back on June 14. Two subsequent requests were made in the past two weeks without success.
As others have stated here, USAB appears to have some problems in the competency department that in my opinion pre-dates this more recent crisis.

Re: U.S.A Boxing Rankings?
Yes USAB had issues predating the most recent crisis. Now, they are down to a skeleton staff so don't be too surprised if many things don't get done for awhile. Hopefully, some of these issues will get resolved over the next month and USAB will move forward.
Re: U.S.A Boxing Rankings?
Those left are: Linda Gleeson, Dale Sprowls, Lynette Smith, Rose Tenorio, Amanda Gallegos and Cathy Newell, as well as Patrick Borkowski, and Mike Martino (3 days a week).
Re: U.S.A Boxing Rankings?
I really dont see where its that hard to do rankings for usaboxing since the point system is layed out. if someone would stop and just do it, it would maybe take about 2 hours of thier time then it would be done. and you know someone in usaboxing knows how to run the website. so why dont they just do it. and are they giving points from the national golden gloves and pal tourney
Re: U.S.A Boxing Rankings?
I checked today and the new rankings has been posetd for the senior men and women.
Re: U.S.A Boxing Rankings?
does anyone know if national points will be giving for the pal tournament. and how many points do people get for international tournaments or duals?
Re: U.S.A Boxing Rankings?
From what I remember PAL always gets points given, it's a ranking tournament. I thought they also did factor international competition into the rankings, I can't imagine they won't include the World Championships.

Points are given for dual meets and international competitions - unless that has changed.thought they also did factor international competition into the rankings, I can't imagine they won't include the World Championships.
