Can't say I'm that surprised by this, Precott didn't look special before Khan and really hasn't showed too much to suggest he is a world class talent. I'll say I didn't expect Vazquez to beat him, but it hasn't come as a 'stunning upset', more like a bit of a surprise.

In a stunning upset, unheralded Miguel Vazquez (25-3, 12 KOs) outworked previously unbeaten WBA #5/WBC #7 lightweight Breidis Prescott (21-1, 18 KOs) to win a ten round split decision on Friday night at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. Prescott, best known for his one round KO of Amir Khan, dropped Vazquez with a jab in round one, but the awkward Vazquez gave Prescott fits for the rest of the fight. Vazquez was able to repeatedly score while frustrating Prescott whose eye was badly swollen at the end. Scores were 95-94, 96-93 for Vazquez, 97-92 Prescott.

i have to say i saw this coming, not so much last night but since Khan he has be very inactive and looked quite poor at times. Its all a bit sad really because its seems problems outside the ring with management have affected his career.

He didn't look good in the fight he had before Khan either and that's all we've really seen of him.

great point, i for one think what happened to Khan that night was the wake up call he needed and on the evidence of what Prescott has Khan should of really boxed his ears off. Prescott is a very heavy handed fight but Khan played straight into his hands that night a bit like Ricky against Pacman where as the plan should of been stay at long ranch and in and out. People say Khan is chinny and maybe he is but he took a couple of huge blows that night and still got up. I have always had a feeling his conditioning has a lot to do with his chin problem with very low body fat and poor lower body and even though he had been down before he always got up to win which is a sign of a fighter with a big heart inmy book.

i guess we will find out tonight! i think light welter will suit him better and as long as he can keep kotelnek at range its a win win!

so it looks like khan may have lost to someone who isn't particularly good

what does that make khan, a kid who fights on PPV? at the very least he probably doesn't belong on the stage set for him, but we will have to see if he can advance his career in a dramatic way tonight.

i think it had more to do with him fighting a natural, poissibly fringe world class lightweight rather than a domestic super featherweight. size and power. we'll have to see what amir's like at 140. not only what he's like at 140 but how he copes with a 140-pounder.

Prescott must be cursed on ESPN...he's had 3 fights on there now, the 1st a controversial SD Win, the 2nd he got bitten and now the 3rd he was schooled by a really tricky spoiler who could well be alot better than his record show's especially at his natural weight of Lightweight.

You have to feel sorry for Prescott though, he beats Khan in spectatcular fashion yet its Khan who goes on to fighting Barrera and than Kotelnik for a World Title whilst Prescott gets to Fight for Peanuts against 2 journeymen on ESPN.

He just may be one of those Great Columbian Punches who has tremedous KO power but no Basic Boxing skills like his fellow countrymen Edison Miranda, Epifanio Mendoza, Fulgencio Zuniga, Jose Luis Herrera, Dionisio Miranda, Joel Julio, Ricardo Torres and Juan Urango.

What does all this mean for Khan? well nothing we don't already know.....Khan went toe to toe with a Big Puncher and got KTFO..its really that simple...even in Prescott's loss last night he knocked down his iron chinned opponent with a jab so his power is there, just not his basic Boxing Skills.

I did mention in a thread I posted yesterday that Vazquez had gone the distance at welter against Saul Alvarez (hard bastard teenage Mexican prospect) & the full route with TIm Bradley at light-welter. It's obvious he can take a shot -- I think that Prescott is the only guy to have decked him.

Like Exittored says, I think this says more about Breidis' lack of technique & skill then it does about his power. Good win for Vazquez though -- Miguel versus Edwin Valero, anyone?

I wouldn't call this a stunning upset. Prescott looked poor against Richard Abril and just removed Khan with pure, unadulterated power punching. He got beaten by a decent operator here and showed that he is a solid contender and certainly not a world beater.
