I think that's what he means. My first reading was that they were world champions before they had there first fight! :o

Unless it's a refernce to world amateur champion but that's going a bit too far surely.

Roberto Duran's first opponent eventually lost a world title fight but that's the best I can do.

It's a good question. Guty Espadas (the one who could fight) lost to Freddie Castillo on his debut, but Castillo was having about his fifth fight.

I know of, and have found, plenty of almosts, much like matchfixer's pick of Duran, or Bennie's Espadas. But i've got no ideas left, and it's just to obscure to warrant trawling the archives.

You've got everyone beat, just give us the answer.

It's killing me.

The closest I came to was future WBA featherweight champion Steve Cruz against future WBA featherweight title challenger Pascual Aranda. Both were making their debut.

Doesn't look like anyone will get it so do you rekon you could give us the answer or at least give us a clue, it's been driving me mad :x

Closest I could find was Duran fighting Mendoza on his debut but mendoza fought for a title but never won one.
