Will young Oscar slay the Big Bad Wolf on Saturday night?

Ok, so he's not so young anymore...but he's still a Knight In Shining Armour to a lot of his female fans, which gives the fight a weird, fairy tale angle - Beauty and the Beast, or -

My, what big teeth you have....

But will Little Red Riding Hood suddenly turn and slay the fearsome big bad wolf?

I think he's got a better chance than he's been given - Hop is no Marvin Hagler - Destruct & Destroy. He's a thinking fighter, who likes to outbox and break down his opponents, bit by bit. He's not even a very big middleweight - and could still make light middle if he needed too.

ODH is not a bad boxer himself, much better than one-paced Tito, and he's faster than Hopkins too.
Even his right hand might give the bigger man a surprise ( think Jones/Ruiz ) and leave Hopkins showing him a bit of respect - in which case, The Golden Boy's chances go up a level.

There's a good chance of a fairytale end to Oscar's dream on Saturday night.

The biggest negative I see for De La Hoya is his rematch with Mosley. While I believe he won the fight it continues to disturb me that Shane was the stronger man throughout, only to be totally shown up later by a legit 154 pounder in Winky Wright.

How well can Oscar hope to fair against the daddy of the middleweights? He's got his work cut out just to last the distance I feel, especially as the old man will have those judges on his mind.

That's because Shane had strange, superhuman powers that night 8)

ODH was strong enough to hold his own with the steroid powered Feroz, so he's no 80 pound weakling. That said, he'll be staying clear of Hop, circling him and crashing in the occasional right hand bomb.

I predict a systematc beating from round 5 on for the golden boy.

the wolf will huff and puff and blow away Oscar and hopefully have no need for the three little pigs (judges).

that stinks bad already.

Yeah I see David posted that Oscar has got two of his boys in from the Strum fight. hmmmmmm.

Can't imagine the extremely paranoid Hopkins will stand for that will he?

i dunno its not good tho is it, I do hope we just have a classic fight with no complications, I really do, no draws (unless it is one) no bent scoring, just two modern day greats entertaining us all.

DLH has 1 weapon in this fight and 1 only : speed ! that might seem a bit not enough but speed is a key to power and defense...Oscar has great skill , great speed and is a smart boxer who listens to his corner and who keeps control of himself , able to follow a gameplan very well...he could confuse Hopkins with his footwork and speed leading Hopkins to lose his focus and rush in anger , and there Oscar could counter him or trap him to earn a UD...no doubt Oscar will come in outstanding shape for this one and could count on Hopkins's age in the late rounds...i definatly think Oscar can win...CAN...of course Hopkins is favorite in this bout...but i just like the underdog here cause he shows some respect to the sport by giving himself such a challenge !

if two of the "men of the era" are to set battle and its ruined by bullshit out of the ring it could take me a while to get over it.

i really hope we just have a cracking fight with no crap.

Raff agree Oscar has to use his speed but dont you think that Nard has come up with a plan to counter this? He will slow oscar down look for him working the body as soon as he gets close in the opening stanza's, really mix it up before going head huinting in the last quarter of the fight.

Cant wait for this one I just hope it isnt tainted by anything untoward out of the ring.

I think ODH deserves a lot of credit for taking the fight.

I think he has more than just speed and skill. He can be ( end of the SSM fight when he coasted ) a very very smart fighter, certainly smarter than BH and I hope he is going to use that for the fight

I think he can do it.

I think a focused Delahoya can sneak this on points, but if he shows up in the same condition as against Sturm then he could be stopped as early as the 5th.

Looks like the bookies see a draw in the pipeline. Some are offering only 18/1 on the draw. I think that's a good bet. Top Rank do like their big money rematches.

If Joppy can go twelve I reckon Oscar can manage it. And yes, a draw might be worth a bet - this is Las Vegas, after all, where the judges can usually be relied on to go for the wrong guy.

I am going for Hopkins on points or late stoppage, Oscar may take an early lead with his advantage in speed but I see Hopkins after about four rounds cutting the ring down and attacking Oscars body to slow him down further. If Mosley hurt Oscar to the body what will Hopkins do to him?

It would not shock me to see Oscar floored by a body shot, but Oscar dispite his 'pretty boy' looks IMO is every bit the fighter Hopkins is and will rise to the challange and put up a competative gutsy showing.

But I still see Hopkins being a bridge too far for The Golden Boy.

I saw a little clip of De La Hoya a few days back, and he looked in great shape. He looked lean, without being gaunt, and even had a visable six-pack. I can't remember the last time i saw him looking that fit, i think it was probably in his days below welter. From what i saw, i presume he must be sacrificing weight for speed, which IMO, is the right way to go.

Up until a week ago i really thought that Hopkins would do to Oscar what he did to Joppy, and gradually break him up. But i've reconsidered, and i'm really starting to believe that DLH can win, legitimately aswell.

I'm not afraid we'll a 'dodgy' decision. If the judges were that swayed with the Golden boy and the glamour (not to mention big bucks) they'd have gone with him in both Mosley fights and the Tito one.

ODH has to move and box like he did with Tito for the first 8/9 rounds and then just hope and pray he has enough in the tank to hold on. He also has to ensure Hopkins can feel some of ODH punches and earn some respect early on. If he fails to do this then ODH could be in for a lot of pain.

Hopkins isn't stupid and will know exactly what ODH has in mind i.e hit and move all night. Hopkins will try to make this as ugly as possible, Hopkins is a great inside fighter and ODH will be aware of that I'm sure.
