Enzo is not a tit, he's a nice guy who limitations have been exposed at top level. I don't like the fact that folk want to slate him because he was happy to take on top fighters and has come up short. But then folk have done it to Hatton too, British people don't like people who have had success.
So Macca won't have a great legacy but he still has a lot to be proud of and has earned a good living doing so. I'm sure he will continue to be regularly seen helping out the kids from his fathers gym and giving plenty back to the sport

My sentiments exactly. He was found wanting at a certain level but he tried his best and was a decent bloke outside the ring. What more could you want. yes, he gave it the proverbial "big I am" when he was champ, but don't they all. No reason to gloat now. It's good that he recognises and accepts the time has come. He's a good studio guest, too, so with that and training, he should be OK. Good luck.

His comment about Lebedev not lasting 2 rounds with him two years ago was below the belt though and totally inaccurate. Beating guys like Bobby Gunn and the Algerian fella must cloud the judgement.

Lebedev would have taken him apart yesterday, 1,2,3,4 or 5 years ago. Sad but true.

enzo is a class fella an it is such a shame to call it a day but i think hes rite in doing so hes made a good life out of boxing now he can sit back with his family an enjoy wot he has earned well done son i hope we see him training people i agree he has a wealth of knowledge that he can pass on to up and coming fighters

Enzo seemed to say that the decsion was based on nothing being there anymore

Some people have said that Enzo got found out because the oppostion was better

However Enzo has said he seems to feel the likes of Denis Lebdev would not have lasted more than 2 rounds with him at his peak.

Leddev certainly didnt look nothing special.

Would Enzo would have blown him away in his prime............................???

Mark Hobson nearly beat him when he was in his so called prime so I would say probably not.

Personally i think he's one of the good guys in boxing, but he believed he was better than he was. He's had some duff opponents like Bobby Gunn etc who have rolled over and it's perhaps gave him more confidence than he had in actual ability.

He may be limited, but I haven't seen him laid out or sit down for a count.

Lebedev was much smaller, and was taking an age to throw some of those shots at the end, which were never the less connecting with Enzo's face!

Who knows if the Enzo of two years ago was much better.

The guy he beat 18 months ago (but an odd stoppage), Mohamed Azzaoui, has since lost 4 out of 5 (to modest opposition) , 2 by early KO.

Braithwaite ( 2 years ago) was capable, but not exactly a workld beater, as his recent wide loss to Cunningham shows.

Then before that Bobby Water Pistol. and Marcelo Fabian Dominguez, who isn't exactly world level.

Other than Mark Hobson and Delaney, both decent British level boxers, he hasn't beaten anyone else of note.


Thats his record, more or less. No real evidence of form to suggest that he would have beaten Lebedev in 2 rounds 2 years ago.

any boxer just about will make excuses. because if you get beaten in a fight, you have to make changes, do things differently, recognise the areas that you have to improve on and the wrinkles that need ironing out. fans don't much like hearing it - mainly because we love a winner and want to give them credit - but sometimes that can be constructive for the fighter, sometimes it can just be an excuse.

but i never really much cared for the things macca says about opponents. doesn't seem to give 'em much credit for beating him.

The problem with comments like those Rhino, is it shows you know nothing about boxers. It takes a lot of self-belief to get in the ring in the first place. Enzo had some really good wins but the Haye loss seemed to destory him mentally. Happens to fighters.

Are you seriously saying that he was at his best v Swaby and Afolabi? If you believe that, you know nothing about boxing.

There clearly were things wrong before Afolabi, and it is obvious he is not the fighter he was two years ago. Why is that crap? Boxers hit their peak at different times of life and, sadly, Enzo's time has gone.

But he is a lovely, genuine bloke and I had a lot of good night watching him - the night he flattened Scott, the night he beat Braithwaite and his win over Dominguez included.

All that nasty sniping, all the "wish he'd admit he was crap" merely exposes the qualities of the people who write it rather than the people they write it about.
