i'm just glad he didn't beat haye. can you imagine it - "adamek is a BUM, he didn't beat THE MAN at THE WEIGHT, he has to BEAT ENZO or he's JUST ANOTHER belt holder"

i wonder what would have happened if banks had come over here. would banks have punched him out, or would enzo have got a new break in his manufatured (if once prmising) career?

The problem with comments like those Rhino, is it shows you know nothing about boxers. It takes a lot of self-belief to get in the ring in the first place. Enzo had some really good wins but the Haye loss seemed to destory him mentally. Happens to fighters.

Are you seriously saying that he was at his best v Swaby and Afolabi? If you believe that, you know nothing about boxing.

There clearly were things wrong before Afolabi, and it is obvious he is not the fighter he was two years ago. Why is that crap? Boxers hit their peak at different times of life and, sadly, Enzo's time has gone.

But he is a lovely, genuine bloke and I had a lot of good night watching him - the night he flattened Scott, the night he beat Braithwaite and his win over Dominguez included.

All that nasty sniping, all the "wish he'd admit he was crap" merely exposes the qualities of the people who write it rather than the people they write it about.

i was there when he beat scott.....but he nearly got sparked himself. for his talent, he over achieved, he always made excuses, and always got beat (bar the braithwaite fight) when he faced a tough opponent.

enzo maccarinelli became a decent way of making money for the unnasuming gambler, the bookies always gave good odds against him being sparked, and it happened a few times. and people coined it in.

he DID always make excuses, never gave opponents praise for whooping his welsh arse, and consequently lost the respect of your average boxing fan. i wont be sorry to see him go, i had 10 times as much respect for carl thompson, he took his lumps, then came back for more, a true warrior.

maccarinelli is very lucky that he was well managed and his matches were well made. the writing was on the wall when swaby whooped him, his career was then planned out. decent punch and china chin. he made more money than his talent would suggest.

he was a decent british level fighter, perhaps worthy of a euro shock, but he never even proved himself the best in his country (britain i mean). swaby KO'd him, thompson would have whooped him, nelson would have stood him on his head then KO'd him, and haye did what he had to do without breaking sweat.

I just watched the fight, and to be honest, I think Maccarinelli has a point when he says "nothing was there". To me it was a reasonable point rather than an outright excuse.

He was being pushed back right from the start -- and very easily at that. He literally offered nothing, his defence was even messier than usual, and his jab and right just weren't working.

By the end, he was a sorry sight at the end of the fight -- staggering around the ring, no defence, shipping punishment and a completely closed eye. Painful viewing.

Don't know what happened to Enzo. He was never really an elite cruiserweight, but he was better than British level, and now I wouldn't fancy him to beat a novice. He's slipped very quickly.

I suspect that after the crushing defeat against Haye fight, the period when he had dates cancelled and fighters pull out just took the stuffing out of him.

Anyway, everything seems to have gone now, including, most worryingly, his punch resistance.

All the best to him, but really, that was the kind of performance that would suggest retirement to me.

Won't be long before he is banned from here. One reason could be that he is continually making new topics when his posts could go into one of several topics on Enzo. Also, he clearly doesn't read the board. Posted a new topic asking for the Enzo vid which was already posted just underneath and now this topic which has already been discussed.

Im glad he has retired he had nothing left and didnt look himself in his last 2 fights glad to hear he is staying in the game he will have a lot to offer to kids learning the game imo

Enzo has actually seemed a decent enough bloke when I've seen him interviewed and I wish him all the best.

He was still one of the contestants in the biggest domestic dust up (and world title unification fight) of the decade which is a decent enough acheivement I feel. He should be proud of that even if he didn't ultimately acheive what he felt he could.

Haye - he 'made a mistake'
Olafabi - he had no sparring
Lebdevev (sp?) - he didn't feel right

All valid excuses as far as I can see that hampered his performance in these fights

If he never had the above issues in them fights - he could easily still be undefeated now !!!
