Ringside Tournament

Post by brittanyb »

Does anyone else think that in this day and age with all of the technological advances we've made, that it would be easy for Ringside to post ON THE INTERNET the bout sheets everyday???? I think its so "old school" (not to mention the tournament has grown so much) to put pieces of paper on the windows for everyone and their mother to try to look at at 6:00 in the morning. I think it would save people alot of hassle, especially those not staying close to the venue, of having to drive there, TRY to look at some papers on the windows. When, if it were simply posted in PDF on the Ringside website it'd be soooo much easier. Just my thoughts. I hate fighting the crowd. Last year, my first year coaching, I missed a fight.

That might work for people who had their laptops with them, and providing Ringside had someone available to upload the information on their web site.

If 6 a.m. is the time the bout sheets get completed, then they would also go on the web site at 6 a.m.

You might try emailing Ringside your comments and see what they say. And, BTW, bout sheets are posted at any tournament, i.e., the US Championships, PAL, etc.

Posting them is possible. Last year when the National Golden Gloves Tournament was held in Grand Rapids, the bout sheets were posted on-line and paper copies on the bulletin board by midnight the night before so everyone knew when they were boxing. It really isn't that hard to do, especially when the tournaments are using the electronic bracket program.

It's really easy. Scan and put pdfs on the site. I took photos of all the sheets each morning and/or made copies from Tour Dir. But, I would still go look at live sheets in case there was error online. . .too paranoid.

Plus, who wants to miss all of the fun of getting up at 5:30 am, drinking coffee, squishing in to see the brackets and watching the crowd get smaller and smaller? At this point after about 6 years, it's become a tradition!! lol.

So Title only had 100 (I don't know I wasn't there) or so? I guessing not as many as Ringside. Which tells me that Title did a better job of getting the word out than Ringside. You can't tell me that Ringside doesn't have the staff or the "know-how" to at least put the bout sheets in PDF and put a link on the tournament site. They ARE using a computer. A few extra steps to create a link and BAM! we're in the 21st century. I just think there is a better, more modern, way to do things. I'm all about starting NEW traditions.

there were more than 100 i was there, i believe it was closer to 300, but it still doesn't matter when your talking about posting bout sheets. All i'm saying is thaty posted the sheets at the local hotels and it made it a whole lot easier on everyone. that can be done no matter how many boxers are there.

As hard as it is to get to RWC or any tournament (time, money, energy). . . I for one and NOT for relying on electronic means for letting me know my boxers are fighting. I can see it now trying to argue that the electronic bout sheet didn't have my boxer fighting and that's why we didn't weigh in. Even if it were emailed, I would still go look at hardcopy and take my usual pictures. :)

It just costs too much $$ and our kids work to hard to leave it to chance or email. It amazes me when coaches call me to tell them if their kids are boxing. I always tell them what I think I see, but "You need to come up here yourself and check because if I'm missing something, I'm not going to be responsible". It's hard enough keeping track of my own guys.

That doesn't even consider the last minute changes that sometimes occur. Disqualifications that require the bracket to be redrawn do occur.

How do you suggest a group of officials who don't know how and where to post do so?

just provide info to those that can, preferably in advance of tourney. I just got press release from Natl Jr GG Tourney Director and if I get results I'll post the on this forum and my blog - both of which get picked up by google searches which acct for most online searches. A simple press release on a few forums or to bloggers would be enough really. Just my two cents.

In the case of the officials who work the Desert Showdown, none of them have the wherewithal for publishing this kind of information. The Desert Sun newspaper (also online) does carry some of the information.

I think the the results might be carried on several web sites - Barry's Boxing and Las Vegas.

I agree with DC. Just send out a press release with the info to about 100 e-mail addresses and it will get disseminated.

So you don't see any merit in looking at the websites mentioned?

let's do an experiment for fun. Let's see where the info gets posted first. Those site or this forum. These days newspapers are scooped by blogs and forums and websites even with a lot of resources are last to post info even on events they are running. This forum usually has results because our members are great about reporting when they get news. I bet that I'll get brackets online for Jr GG before it's on the official site, unless someone tips them off:)

aren't gonna argue since neither of those sites have posted brackets in the past. 8)

I also started a new thread on Jr. GG.

Just messin with you Mel. I actually got last year's results from Barry's. I'm sure it will be up. I don't think a lot of these tournaments realize that there are a lot of people who wan the info that they have (brackets/results/scores) so we don't have to depend on 3rd parties. . .

Actually, they do, but most don't have the resources, i.e., someone with a lap top who can post daily results. I did just that at the PAL tournament a couple of years ago - real time finals results - BUT I have a lap top and a web site.

I'm going to try. I have 5 boxer that I'm going out there with, so I'll get as much as I can. I think I'm going to have to get people's contact info to get copies. There are really way too many fights to keep up with. . .I usually check the bout sheets and mark the ones that I want to get each day. Last year I had 3 boxers and they fought 10 times total and I still got a lot of video. . .
