Well spotted. "Lomax isn't a banger".Dioufy wrote:Very good point.Ben Carey wrote:I wasn't THAT impressed, to be honest. Slightly premature stoppage, got caught occasionally with his hands down (good job Lomax isn't a banger) and I'm not sure Brook has shown he can fight inside.
I would find it very unusual if any of Lomax's opponents didn't know this. Apart from when a fighter is matched against a totally unknown opponent, both fighters can be expected to know their opponents strengths and weaknesses and fight accordingly. In other words, if Kell, or anyone else for that matter, is matched against a known 'banger' they would, or at least should, adjust their game plan to suit. If the opponent has a reputation for not being a 'banger' then it is not so necessary to be overly defensive.
One for the statistitions here though, Kell has yet to fight an orthodox opponent. He has had the unusual misfortune, if it can be called that, to have been matched exclusively against southpaws from his fight for the title against Barry Jones, through McIntyre, Elwell and lastly Lomax. At least if Jennings turns out to be his next opponent he will be up against an orthodox fighter which should be more to Kell's liking.
I can't find, in the research that I have done, any other fighter who has fought only southpaws from gaining the title to winning the Lonsdale belt outright. Perhaps one of our posters with an encyclopaedic brain, perhaps Terry D can shed some light on whether there ever has been a boxer unlucky enough to have faced the same situation?
