Pacman favourite over Cotto!
I see you can get 7/4 for Cotto in this fight.
I would not have Pacman as favourite. Cotto is a strong welterweight and a naturally much stronger guy than Pacquioa.
Cotto will stop him in the middle to late rounds in my opinion.

Re: Pacman favourite over Cotto!
Thing is, Pacman is about as "at the top of his game" as you can be.
Cotto is being forced down a few pounds, and he's been really busted up in 2 of his last three fights. He's got a LOT of wear and tear on him, for such a young fighter.
If Manny can spark Hatton like that, there's a good chance he can really hurt Cotto, who's chin has taken some serious punishment over the last few years.

Definitely a tougher test for Pac than his last 3.
A faded ricky, who'd been buzzed off Lazcano ffs amonst others, the shell that was dlh and the game but limited diaz, the prototype of an alphabet champ.
Not having a go at Manny who's a magnificent fighter, but this a genuine match-up imo. Priced about right given the hype and publicity generated by Manny's wins.

Cotto's getting blasted out, Judah wasn't far from doing it and Pacquaio will follow though, Cotto's defense and chin aren't up to the job. Lets look at all the fighters who've had Cotto reeling - Torres, Mosley, Judah, Clottey and Margarito put him away. Pacquaio is the better faster boxer and will hit him flush more frequently than those fighters with equal or more venom.

Agree with this fully and think it the weight the fight has been made at could play a major factor. Pacman late stoppage for me.MightyWarrior wrote:Thing is, Pacman is about as "at the top of his game" as you can be.

Re: Pacman favourite over Cotto!
Sorry don't agree with this at all....first of all Mosley, Judah or Clottey never had cotto reeling in any sense....mosley looked shattered by round 6.....Judah landed some great uppercuts but hardly had Cotto reeling and Clottey didn't throw enough punches to have him in that much trouble...not sure what fights you were watching..?!?!?Phenomenal-Nutrition wrote:Cotto's getting blasted out, Judah wasn't far from doing it and Pacquaio will follow though, Cotto's defense and chin aren't up to the job. Torres and Corley both really hurt Cotto but that was due to weight drain IMO......
and lastly Margarito probably cheated for the cotto fight anyone....look how awful he looked against Mosley....it was obvious....
I appreciate that we all have an opinion but i don't see how you can say those fighters had him reeling....

Re: Pacman favourite over Cotto!
Cotto beat Mosley in a closely contested fight, the same Mosley who absolutely battered Margarito from pillar to post. The same Margarito who was described as having an iron chin before the fight.J wrote:SPOT ON GREAT POSTPhenomenal-Nutrition wrote:Cotto's getting blasted out, Judah wasn't far from doing it and Pacquaio will follow though, Cotto's defense and chin aren't up to the job. No way does Pacman hit harder than Mosley.
I think people may be shocked at the result of this fight. Speed kills, but Cotto is a pretty brutal puncher and a strong man at 147, and lest we forget, the only welterweight Pacman faced was horrifically weight drained.
If Cotto comes into this healthy at 145, I think pacman is in for a rough night.
Re: Pacman favourite over Cotto!
I thought moselty beat cotto but there you go, since then cotto has been smashed by Marg and struggled badly against clottey, if he struggles against clottey how is he gonna contend with Pac.
Too fast, both footwork and handspeed, Cotto likes to work at his own pace and pac wont lety that happen.
Cotto is not the same fighter who fought mosely imo.

I disagree with your logic around the Clottey and Mosley fights but agree that Pacman will be too much for Cotto. I like Pacman BIG in this fight.J wrote:I thought moselty beat cotto but there you go, since then cotto has been smashed by Marg and struggled badly against clottey, if he struggles against clottey how is he gonna contend with Pac.

Re: Pacman favourite over Cotto!
Agreed, unfortunately. Cotto was really good pre-Margarito. He's not been the same since that fight. I think Pacquiao could finish him off as a top fighter. :(J wrote:Cotto is not the same fighter who fought mosely imo.
Re: Pacman favourite over Cotto!
cotto was feeble in his last fight. he's on his way out. shrunken down a couple of extra pounds as well. ugh.

Cotto will go to the body. He is an excellent body puncher and that is the key to this fight.
Pacman is great, but Cotto is a fantastic boxer and I can`t see him losing this one. Don`t forget, Clottey is a tough match for anyone and Cotto was cut bad in that fight.
It`s a great matchup, can`t wait for it.

Re: Pacman favourite over Cotto!
I think he will be badly drained again. One of the things Michael Jennings said before facing Cotto was how drawn he looked and I think he has been having trouble making 147. It's those extra pounds that you have to shed that can really push a fighter over the edge, if he's struggling with 147 losing an extra 2 could be hell.Torres and Corley both really hurt Cotto but that was due to weight drain IMO......
Plus Pacquiao won't have to do any draining so will be at a healthy constant weight throughout the build up.
Plus we have the Evangelista situation possibly hanging over him and whether him and his new trainer are a good match.
Re: Pacman favourite over Cotto!
Stupid comment. Cotto had Clottey down in the first (has anyone done that before?), and he was cut to ribbons in the 3rd. In fact, that fight could've easily been stopped. Blood was literally gushing out of him - it look as if he was giving birth through his eyebrow. He could have easily quit as well and won it on the cards, as he was well up after 4/5 rounds. It was an herioc performance, one that was that courageous it will take me a long time to forget about it.Autobarn wrote:cotto was feeble in his last fight.

Re: Pacman favourite over Cotto!
The good thing about Cotto is that he throws combinations. he has a good jab and can set up his punches well. But Pacmans footwork is so good that it might neutralize that. Cotto will have a hard time pinning him down and he will get hit by HARD punches as he comes forward. He is 1000x better than Hatton though, and I expect him to put on a good showing but ultimately get done. Pacman will KO him imo.
Re: Pacman favourite over Cotto!
cotto was tired and slow and vulnerable. cottey was also injured. if cotto hadn't flung clottey to the floor, injuring his leg, then cotto would have lost for sure. yes he was brave, continuing with all that blood, but he was not commanding, and i'm not convinced he should have got the decision.Dioufy wrote:Stupid comment. it was not a convincing performance, there was some hard luck, but cotto is not the assassin as advertised. he is not the p4p player he is made out to be. he's just a weight drainer with great offensive skills lacking the stamina to back it all up. he's an 8 round legend, and he wouldn't get this fight is he didn't share the same promoter as pacquiao.
Re: Pacman favourite over Cotto!
Cotto is 3/1 in some Vegas sport books.
His defence was fairly poor last time out, but I still expect him to win this eventually.
Although a loss on cut smight be a good punt.

i agree, pacquaio's feet will allow him to circle and 1-2, 1-2-3, all night. i think. and Cotto's tendency to get busted up will be brought out like never before. i think.lirva wrote:The good thing about Cotto is that he throws combinations. he has a good jab and can set up his punches well. Oh dear, Clottey was play-acting all night. Cotto was immense with his REAL injury.Autobarn wrote:cottey was also injured. if cotto hadn't flung clottey to the floor, injuring his leg,
Look at his eye - it was amazingly bad.
Clottey was all wrong for Cotto - I went for Clottey late KO.
Clottey wasn't injured at all - I don't believe that for a second.
Cotto 114/113 Clottey.
And Cotto's always a venerable fighter after eight rounds.
So the fact that he won 3 of the last 4 is sexual.

Ortiz, when he lost to Maidana, reminded me quite a lot of Cotto. in both good and bad ways.
