Should be a good build up. I think a win against Valuev will do alot for Haye's popularity in the UK. I could see a win against Valuev being as significant as a win against Wlad, as far as the average sports fan goes, probably not Vitali as he's got the Lewis connection. A guy of Valuev's freakish size is going to get alot of ordinary sports fans taking notice. With a legitimate belt at heavy weight it should make a fight with the Klitschkos alot easier to sort out as well. Its far from a certainty that he'll beat Valuev though. Haye's been out the ring a while now and Valuev has the physical advantages to cause anyone problems. Of course, Hayes speed and movement should give Valuev plenty to worry about as well.

he'll beat valuev.

too fast and skillful.

shame we gotta wait till november.

gives him more bargaining power when it comes to the klitschko if he picks up that belt as well. :TU:

All true of course, but if we just view it as a marquee type HW fight, it's a top matchup. Plus he will view himself as a major world title beltholder, and you can't begrudge him that, IF he pulls if off.
Same way we all talk about Jim Watt as an ex world champ, but in fact he just won one of two vacant belts up for grabs. Or Magri, Hope, Conteh etc etc

I think Boxing News should reflect it.

How can they discuss Kltischko and Klitschko and then say "David Haye will have to slay giant to the win THE heavyweight world title", by way of example.

Remember the WBA didn't even recognise Valuev until Chagaev defected to the Klitschko fight.

You wouldn't call Wolves English Champions if they won the Coca Cola Cup.

Its bollacks.

Well, we should all maybe get used to saying 'title holder.'

You need to go ahead and preach to the people proclaiming Amir Khan as a a world champion then...

I do that too, and Bernard Dunne.

The WBA really is the piss-pot pot of the all the piss-pot pots.

Could anyone else have a round robin tournament just among its own Super-Bantamweight title holders.

Simply because I think Haye's speed will make the difference - unlike the Klitschkos, I can't see Valuev keeping Haye on the end of his jab or deterring Haye from closing the distance through a strong, straight right hand. Chagaev and Holyfield have already established the blueprint for beating Valuev and those tactics play to Haye's strengths... he's faster and punches harder than both those fighters.
Valuev will be taking more punishment, from more angles, than ever before and I can easily envisage him being demoralised and overwhelmed by the acculumation of punishment.

Or at least the World Boxing Association recognised World Champion (other world champions are available).

Belt-holder, title-holder would all be recognised short-hand.

But we fans are GUILTY of the sustaining this fraud.

Don't think Valuev is a good bet to knock Haye out with those arm punches he throws.

I think this has got a Haye points win written all over it as long as he paces himself and doesn't spend the 1st few rounds of the fight unloading on the VW!

Hmm, I think you're rather overstating just how devastating Haye is, and bear in mind that Haye has only faced I believe one fighter taller than himself before. He's used to have height and reach advantages.

I'm not saying Haye cannot win, but I don't see him being able to walk in there and just bang Valuev out, the guy is just too big and physical for that, he's by far and away the biggest guy to ever set foot in a boxing ring.

I can just see Haye avoiding Valuev's big shots, perhaps with a couple of scres on the way to a wide points victory........but I agree we can't talk about him as elite in the division until he faces one of the Klits.

I'd rather he fought Wlad, because Vitali is a monster....He could KO Wlad within five IMO.

ok, who is gonna pay 15 quid to watch a bag of sh@te meaningless match...even if haye beats valuev it proves nothing to me other than he beat a mediocre heavyweight...SKY again have taken briish boxing fans' pants down...surely the best approach would have been to have this one on sky 1 or summin, and eventually, if haye ends up fighting one of the klitchko's then make that box office..rip off..after the khan debacle i am not paying for SBO again

Whilst I agree that it should not be on box office, how can you call Valuev a mediocre heavyweight?

Yes he is slow and cumbersome and does not hit as hard as he should but mediocre?

He has a record of 50-1-0 (34) - with wins over John Ruiz and Sergey Lyakhovich - sure he is not a Klitschko but he is a damn site better than a Monte Barret etc.

Plus he is the WBA champion and picking up that belt might seal a Klit fight in the future

@ David Payne

Its even worse than your making out

We all know Chagaev was the real WBA chamionps and he got pummelled by Vlad so I'm not really sure what version of this WBA shit that Haye might win and I dont see how it adds any bargaining power. 'Equal and fair terms'

Didnt a Valuev v Klit fight fall through due to them not recognising him as WBA champion

It really is a load of shit. Unless our fighters are going for it then all logic flies out the window

But where have I suggested anywhere that Haye can just walk in there and just bang Valuev out? As I stated previously, I think it's far more likely it will be the accumulation of punches and just as importantly the mental impact of being hit hard and often that will lead to a stoppage in Haye's favour - I don't think it will be an early one-punch KO.
It's not so much to do with Haye being devastating (I think either of the Klits would punish him), but to do with Valuev being so sluggish and lacking in power. Styles make fights.

Delighted Dave has taken this fight and as he states not the long term scenario "Team Klitschko" were trying to entice him to sign up to.

David is in charge of his own destiny now which is far more sensible in my view!!! - I hope he wins and its more of a fight than the Vitali one which I simply did not give him a chance in.

he is an undisputed champion in CW so i think if he, sorry, when he beats valuev he deserves the credit of being called a world champion. I think if he ko's valuev then he deserves full props for ko'ing a man who has never been knocked out in over 52 fights. whos 8 st heavier and a good ft taller. id like to see him smash up a few other fighters after that then go for the klitschkos, just for pure entertainment value, he could potentially be the biggest HW fighter in British history.
