'Golden Boy' Sid talks about Glover DQ

Not the interview i was expecting to read when Sid talked about his DQ.
Came across really well there, on the night of the Glover fight he was obviously disapointed, but i'm guessing he's had time to watch it and talk it over with people, and seen that he was in the wrong that night.

Lets see if the 'gym form' can be transfered to the ring.

sid is not just 'golden boy' but also a poster boy for how, when prospects are being brought along, they need intermediate fights before they get in the ring for competitive ones.

sid has never had to deal with adveristy in the ring until Gethin, and has found it very difficul;t to adapt to decent level of comp.

That wasn't the line he took when interviewed on ITV, so I'm glad to see he's owned up to the low blows and accepted the loss, because he was lucky to last as long as he did against Glover.

he's 31, averaged a fight every 6 months in the last 3 years, lost his last 2, i'd be interested to see how it can go any way but negatively for him. his GF is sik, though.

Well he has hit adversity, so it will be interesting to see how he reponds. Good luck to the guy, refreshing that he made no excuses, was full of praise for the opponent, and knows that he has a lot to prove. Bestof British to him.

Post-fight interviews do tend to a bit fuzzy. In all honesty most of us are under the impression that we could go straight from a fight into a polished, articulate, and intelligently delivered interview. In reality it would probably go a little bit like this:

"F-ing hell! I won/lost! Jesus, that was intense, did you see that poop, blimey. I smacked the guy in the nuts, got pulled for it, and the ref is lucky he didn't get a smack an' all. Jesus, I'm shaking, look at my hands. Eh, what was that, do you want some as well..."

Ouch! I think it depends on your mind-set, if you gave your all and still lost then admitting that to yourself is like waving the white flag. You need the excuses to gee yourself up for another crack.

My initial problem with Enzo post-Haye was that he refused to give Haye credit, he does now, some fighters just need that bit extra to get them back in. I hate the Judah types, make it clear that you want to quit, get thrown out/lose, then say, "I'd have had him if I'd have carried on!"

I get your point, and that's why I haven't criticised Enzo until recently. I guess I just want him to say that the other guy was better, rather than saying that he "could" have won if it wasn't for [insert reason/excuse here].

I understand the need for confidence in your own ability but I think that sometimes a fighter can seem deluded regarding their own ability and for me this can't help them when they face adversity in a fight. It sometimes looks as if they just can't believe the other person is matching them and they don't know what to do . Bradley Pryce against Matthew Hall springs to mind - he was clearly in over his head and just kept smiling and acting like he wasn't hurt whilst getting hit hard and clean.

I also recall Scott Welch saying 'anybody he hit' would be knocked out. Given that even George Foreman and Mike Tyson couldn't boast this it seems a bit much.

I understand public shows of confidence - which are a necessary part of boxing - but in examples such as these I wonder whether there is the reality check in the gym that is needed to ensure that they don't get falsely complacent.

Good interview by the way Terry. I forwarded the link to a guy I work with who knows him a little and he thought it was a really good piece. He said he's always found him to be a nice guy when sitting down to chat with him.
