Re: Witter turned down the Khan fight
Hopefully Witter will beat Devon Alexander and a unification with Khan can be set up.
Would be very interesting, 50-50 fight imo

I hope Witter wins the WBC fight so they make Khan-Witter.
It will be interesting to see what excuses will be made by the ppl who think Khan will get Ko'd when Khan beats Witter

one thing is certain, khan has more balls than hatton. hes won a world title in half the time and even offered witter a fight.

True.lirva wrote:one thing is certain, khan has more balls than hatton. hes won a world title in half the time and even offered witter a fight.
That said, all things considered, I can only see Witter being given the chance to fight Khan if he LOSES in his world title challenge.
Just the nature of boxing.
Whilst a unification fight is fantastic, it just has "not going to happened" written all over it.
Remember as recently as 18 months ago people were wondering why Khan was "avoiding" Thaxton!

If Witter loses that title challenge he's going to look a right muppet for not taking this fight - Bearing in mind the prep time he has for Devon.
Re: Witter turned down the Khan fight
perhaps we shoudl start up 17 thousand threads on how witter is ducking khan and carry on endlessly about it months or even years after it has lost relevance.lirva wrote:one thing is certain, khan has more balls than hatton. hes won a world title in half the time and even offered witter a fight.

oh god, we have another one....BIGMARK wrote:hitman_hatton1 wrote:who cares about the title anymore.rhino222 wrote:that is the key thing, a fight v khan would not have been for a title !!!![]()
this is not 1985 anymore rhino.
no one cares about the alphabet titles apart from a few hardcore fans.
if he was fighting a name for this title shot then fair enough.
but he's not.
fighters still care about winning a title imo unless you are superstar like Pacman or Floyd
No, fighters care about the money 1st. Offer any fighter in the world 500,000 to fight Khan and 75K to fight for a title and 99% will go with the money
why do you think so many titles are vacated these days?
Re: Witter turned down the Khan fight
Where would £500 000 come from at the moment- and moreover, that just to pay one fighter?Khaosai-Galaxy wrote:

Re: Witter turned down the Khan fight
This is laughable, witter is made to be the bad guy/chicken,the offer was probably for peanuts with loads of strings attached plus short notice, witter made the right decision he will probably be getting more for his fight next week and the reward for winning is greater as the WBA are now a laughing stock as far as i'm concerned, and if witter loses next week he is more likely to get a khan fight that if he blows alexander away.lirva wrote:I heard that Witter said that he was offered the Khan fight when Kotelnik pulled out the first time but he didn't take it.
What was he thinking? What a great opportunity and he turns it down? KOing Khan would have given him a very high profile and great exposure.
Re: Witter turned down the Khan fight
As Rhino has already stated, beating Khan doesn't automatically lead to world stardom. Prescott was buried after he beat Khan, once the initial hype had died down the guy didn't even get another fight in this country. OK so he's been beaten recently and made to look ordinary, but thats not the point. I have a sneaky suspicion that had Witter upset the cash cow by beating Khan also, then there'd be plenty of clauses that would effectively see whats left of his career bomb.
Likewise had he lost to Khan, I doubt anyone would have listened to the claims of not enough preparation time. People would have just written him off as past it and he'd have probably lost his crack at a world title.

Re: Witter turned down the Khan fight
Khan unlike hatton has guts. Khan would fight.
witter if witter wins the wbc belt. Hatton is money mad and Still afraid of witter. Hopefully witter wins the wbc then we can see a unification match. Hatton is a relative coward un my book. Smir has guts. He is cut from the same cloth as haye and froch. Hatton is just a bully and I think Khan can beat him. Witter knocks Khan out but at least Khan will have the courage to face him. Maybe witter wins the wbc and hatton gets some guts to fight him but going from hattons cowardly stance re witter. It will never happen!

Re: Witter turned down the Khan fight
If Witter beats Alexander and takes the title I can see Khan wanting the fight. I can just imagine the publicity drive, Witter would probably be billed as the man Hatton was scared to face. If it drew a good crowd and decent TV figures then it'd blow all Hattons excuses out of the water.
Khan would win on points though, would be a simlar fight to the Bradley fight, Witter would give him a good battle though.

I cant probe it either @ dioufy but I reckon its about right
Remember how Witter couldnt give away a title shot when he was WBC and couldnt even attract the fringe contenders/has-beens that Hatton attracted with that W** 'belt'
Its all about the benjmins for alot of these guys

Quite rightly too.lefthook82 wrote:Its all about the benjmins for alot of these guys
Belts don't feed the kids.
Re: Witter turned down the Khan fight
Witter would KO Khan even though he's well past his best - Witter is a bloody hard puncher, a bit sparing with his shots but accurate

Its easy to slag Witter off for turning down the opportunity, but he isnt likely to make the same mistake again, taking a fight at short notice and losing. I think he made the right decision.

unfortunately for junior,he just isnt a draw.the fact nobody wanted to box him when he held the "premier" belt speaks volumes, and it isnt because they were avoiding him either.he has done remarkebly well to achieve what he has in world boxing and i hope he is getting a good payday next week.anyway, back to the original post,he should have bitten there hands off.khan points for me though

Isnt Witter, like 33 years old?
Also, title or no title, he cant shift tickets to save his life, the only reason to pass Khan up would be to get the WBC belt and use that as leverage to get more cash from warren.
Which is probably a good idea, because even if he doesnt win the WBC belt, the Khan pay day isnt gonna go away.

@emerson
True enough. Thats why it mAde me laugh when Harris turned down a career high payday against Hatton because he was the 'champ' and should get more
How that work out for you mate?
