Re: WHY do brit fighters get slated on current scene
Cos American fighters are the best and no other country can compete with them, remember.

Ignorance isn't bliss over there, it's fecking rife.

Re: WHY do brit fighters get slated on current scene
I don't really know why. I mean, we aren't even their closest competitors. Any Brit who does well REALLY gets slated over there. Calzaghe, Hatton, Froch, Haye, and so on.
Then again, they do the same to German based boxers.

Re: WHY do brit fighters get slated on current scene
you think they had an abundence of talent the way some posters slag of the rest of the world. i mean thinking about it, there arent really many big american names any more now that de la hoya is gone, hopkins going, mosley still quality but getting on a bit then the big hope victor ortiz getting caned the other week. the froch thing annoys me a bit though, nobody on current scene is really congratulating him for wanting to fight the big names and willing to fight away from home to achieve his goals. i dont remember hopkins wanting to come to europe to fight calzaghe or jones wanting to fight that polish dude daruisz whats his name.

Yep he defeats Jean Pascal now a light heavy champion, goes over to the States to fight the former undisputed middleweight champion who twice defeated Hopkins and stops him and yet they're convinced Dirrell who has had one 12 round fight is a dead cert over Froch.
I can't understand the dislike towards them. Froch and Haye are both prepared to travel to where the big fights are and fight the best out there yet are criticised at every opportunity.

Re: WHY do brit fighters get slated on current scene
They did the same with Lennox Lewis, they got behind some fighter(like Michael Grant for example) and build him up as the next big thing and then they're left with egg on there faces.
They do the same with Floyd Mayweather as well, they jump on the bandwagon of the flavour of the month type fighter in the hope that the said fighter will do the deed for them, "Cotto will beat Mayweather" then Cotto loses, "Margarito will beat Mayweather" Margo loses, "Shane Mosley will beat Mayweather" and on and on it goes.

Re: WHY do brit fighters get slated on current scene
It works both ways. There were also multiple Brits saying Wlad would get easily flattened by Haye, Ricky would maul Pacman, and Froch would destroy Taylor in under six rounds. I have also seen countless threads with people making comments along the lines of "ignorant yanks", "stupid yanks" etc.
People from all places have stupid opinions, especially when it involves their countrymen or favorite fighters. Thats why Dirrell has so many backers against Froch, at least in the current scene, since most are Americans. Also, USA is the home of so many legendary boxers but they are really in a pickle lately, so they cling to any prospect who looks promising as one day being a big star.

I can understand why all of the fighters named have taken flack, a lot of it's warranted.
There's definitely an unwillingness to praise brit fighters over there though, even when it's forthcoming, it usually comes with disclaimers of some kind.
You just have to figure out who's opinion is worth listening to, who's to take with a pinch of salt and who's to just not bother reading.

Re: WHY do brit fighters get slated on current scene
It was exactly the same over at dogpound. Most Americans are blind to the talent of any other country, but seem to reserve special contempt for British fighters. Basically, they don't like the fact that they are losing their grip on the sport and are jealous, that over recent years, Britain has produced more and more fighters that have been capable of gaining world titles, beating American fighters, aswell as being viewed as some of the best of there era, ie, Hamed, Lewis, Hatton, Calzaghe......damianhucker1 wrote:just wanted to vent my annoyance . im sure many of you even post on current scene but why do ther brits get a slating by our usually american counterparts . i first joined this forum when reading about how hatton was really poor , cazaghe was attrociuos etc etc and wanted to argue my point , now i keep seeing on there froch will have no chance against dirrell , and that haye would get beaten by adamek , niether of which i agree with ) i know thats its a forum and everyone has the right to say what they want but it just gets on my tits . This has been happenning along time and it was happenning when Hamed, Lewis, Hatton and Calzaghe were at the top of their games. Lewis is only now being recognised as a great fighter in America and Calzaghe was getting a lot of shit of fAmerican fight fans, right from before he fought Jeff Lacy. It might be as i said. The Americans were so used to dominating the boxing scene and seeing Brit fighters come off second best to their own and now that has changed to a large degree, they don't like it.
It just might be as simple as that !!!
Re: WHY do brit fighters get slated on current scene
Maybe it stems from the face there is a US forum (basically current scene) and a separate forum for British fighters. That will naturally create a rivalry between the two opposing groups. I think its just a good ole fashion rivalry.
And as I and others have mentioned, the USA isn't producing talent at the same level they have been accustomed to in the past. On virtually very major telecast with an American fighter I hear someone say "he could be the new Oscar". Therefore, whenever they see a fighter with promise (Ortiz, Dirrell, etc) they cling to them for hope and support them unconditionally. Thus all the people who think Dirrell will blast away Frochy. That's why there's so many over hyped American boxers. They need a savior.
And of course what country doesn't like saying they have the best boxer?

Re: WHY do brit fighters get slated on current scene
I think it is definitely a US v UK rivalry as it seems US fans have no problem adopting & praising fighters from other countries such as Mexico, PR, Phillipines, Columbia etc.
I think it mostly boils down to if you are based in the US rather than if you are from there though. It seems that if they haven't seen you on their TV (like most up and coming Brits) then you're no good, it is quite ignorant as we Brits like to look out for the next big thing in the US and anywhere else in the world as well as at home.

Re: WHY do brit fighters get slated on current scene
To be fair I just think the current scene has a lot more trolls, young kids who go on there just to wind up people or people who haven't been following the sport very long and thus with a limited knowledge of the sport form a poor opinion. Whilst on the British/Irish Scene I get the feeling a lot of the posters have been following the sport longer and so have a lot more respect, knowledge and understanding of the sport than a lot of the current scene posters. Also, in the British/Irish Forum there are a helluva lot of people involved in the sport, from amateurs to professionals, trainers to referees. And with that comes more knowledge and more respect.
It irks me everytime I hear a poster call a professional boxer some sort of demeaning name. Sure you should/can criticise , but the lack of respect in the current scene is too much at times. These people obviously don't have half a clue how hard professional boxing is or they'd never talk about boxers of any level with such disrespect.
