Fagan-Hyland this Saturday night
Fagan-Hyland this Saturday night
Anybody know if RTE will be screening this? How good is Hyland?
http://www.fingal-independent.ie/sport/ ... 33127.html
WHEN the first bell rings and the punches begin to fly - don't expect Oisin Fagan to take a step back. He's worked hard for this Saturday night and he's intent on letting the world know - the Gael Force is blowing strong as ever.
The Portmarnock fighter takes on Eddie Hyland, the Irish SuperFeatherweight champion, for an IBF International title at the National Basketball Arena, knowing that a victory will see him enter the top 12 in the world. It's too good a chance to let slip away without a real scrap.
But for Fagan it has been a doubleedged sword. Yes, he wants the chance, but he has to drop down in weight for the contest and at 35, that's no easy task.
'Guys my age are usually going up the weights but I'm coming down. It's been going well and I know if I bring my power with me then I'll be a force in this division,' he stated.
Last Thursday night he headed to Balbriggan and the Bracken club for a tough sparring session and enjoyed it. He has been a regular face at the club in recent times and worked there for a few nights prior to his biggest fight yet, against Amir Khan last December.
Incredibly unlucky then, he broke his leg during the contest as Khan won. It was estimated that he would be out for a long spell after that, but he worked to continue his high level of fitness, taking to shadow boxing on a swivel chair to keep himself sharp.
It paid off in his first contest back some weeks ago when he won in Castlebar. When the offer from Hyland came along, he nearly took the promoter's arm as well!
'Eddie is a tough lad, a great competitor and a friend outside the ring, but come Saturday the gloves are off. He has a big heart but I intend to be the heartbreak kid. Eddie has not been in the ring with the company I've been. I've had some tough fights in the United States and I'll give this one a real go'.
Fagan has been regimental in his build up to this contest, eating small portions at regular intervals each day, added to by training stints. He has been burning off the weight in an attempt to make the 9st 4lb limit. He feels he'll be right on target.
'It has taken huge discipline but I'm getting there. It's all about losing the weight but not losing strength and you have to balance that. I was out for breakfast with some friends recently and they were tucking in to a good fry up and I had some rabbit food! - now that was tough!'
But Fagan is determined that Saturday will bring its rewards and beating Eddie Hyland the chance to sample life in the top flight again. Watch him go.

Re: Fagan-Hyland this Saturday night
I think Setanta Ireland are showing a replay of this card a week later. In my opinion Eddie is the least talented of the brothers, Paul is the best technically and Patrick is the biggest puncher, Eddie is somewhere in the middle. I think Fagan will win this one.
Re: Fagan-Hyland this Saturday night
Yeah, SETANTA IRELAND show it four times is what I hear- Mon and Tues after the fight and the following Mon and Tues. I think Fagan has been in too tough for Hyland , but should be a smashing fight. I think eddie is toughest out of the 3 bros, but not as technical as the other 2. Fagan is tough as there is on the boxing scene.
In bookies, Paddy Power, has Fagan at Evens and Hyland at 11/8

Re: Fagan-Hyland this Saturday night
I'm going to this and it should be a great nights boxing, real shame Patrick's opponent had to be changed at short notice but with the time left it wasn't a bad replacement, bit of a shame Power v Waldron isn't going ahead aswell.
Anyway Eddie is the least talented of the brothers for me and it should be a very close fight with Fagan. I think I can see Eddie just coming away with the decision and like the O'Hara fight quite a few people questioning it.
Paulie is certainly the flashiest of the 3, but that doesn't make him technically the best. I feel Patrick is the best of the 3 all round.
Looking forward to seeing Jamie Power put on a show like normal, that man brings excitement against anyone.

Re: Fagan-Hyland this Saturday night
Yeah, Eddie is in tough. I wonder will it matter that it's a Hyland Show, in essence? I think they're all IBF appointed judges but fighting on his own show, the Hylands gotta have the advantage in many ways.
Still wouldn't relish a fight with Fagan, no matter who you are. As has been said many times before, he's limited in skills, but a tougher competitor is hard to find in world boxing. Eddie will have his work cut out for sure. Hope Fagan pulls it off. It would be great for a guy who got into boxing accidently, is now 35 and making Superfeather (the lowest weight of his career, when most go up in weight the older they get). He's been contending at 140 (and as high as 148lbs, I see), most his career, so to come down and beat a prospect at 130lbs would be Fairytale stuff. Wish I could go to it. This ill be a war I think! Enjoy yourself Big Ears

Re: Fagan-Hyland this Saturday night
Was surprised to see Hyland 8/11 jolly for this. Surely down to the promotion and Fagan's huge weight loss. No comparisons in their respectives resume's. All down to how well Fagan handles being his lowest ever weight me thinks.

Fagan v Hyland in the "Tallaght Civil War"
http://www.BS.com/?m=show&id=21209
I just put £40 on Fagan to win at 6/5 after Hyland struggled to make the weight.

Re: Fagan-Hyland this Saturday night
Hyland needed time to hit the weight so that adds an interesting edge. Herrera is out as Patrick's opponent and an African puncher called Tabazalwa is in. Apparently the IBF thingy remains on the line

even more interesting is that Fago cruised the weight limited!steve689 wrote:Hyland needed time to hit the weight so that adds an interesting edge. Herrera is out as Patrick's opponent and an African puncher called Tabazalwa is in. Apparently the IBF thingy remains on the line
Re: Fagan-Hyland this Saturday night
Interesting fight. I thought it on Friday but it is Saturday.
Re: Fagan-Hyland this Saturday night
I agree, I thought Fagan who has never made super-feather before might struggle to find the weight, but it was Hyland who struggled.
Patrick's plan with Tebazalwa is to keep up the hands for the first four, then wear him down, according to Paddy Snr anyway! The African took Choi 12 rounds I hear.
Should get a report up somewhere tomorrow. Will keep you posted

Re: Fagan-Hyland this Saturday night
I also have Fagan backed at 6/5 to beat Eddie Hyland. Fagan is hungry after what happened against Khan. I think it could be a split decision victory. In saying I have Fagan backed it would be better for Irish boxing if Hyland won because if Fagan wins where is he going to go at 35?
Pajo's new opponent Tebazalwa is no pushover at all, I seen his fight against Choi Tseveenpurev and although he was outboxed he was unlucky in a way, hes a real battler but considering the fact he took the fight at short notice I can see nothing but a Pajo victory.
Think its a joke the card isnt on live TV, Irish tv is rubbish!
Who knows anything about Gary O'Sullivan, i heard he is a very good prospect???

Re: Fagan-Hyland this Saturday night
O'Sullivan needs to sign himself up to a high profile promoter and he can certainly go places. From what I've seen of him he's always in immaculate shape and hits extremely hard. Looking forward to seeing him tonight.
Re: Fagan-Hyland this Saturday night
Any updates on this fight?
Re: Fagan-Hyland this Saturday night
Boxrec has Hyland a winner by decision.

This is a quick report from Paddy at On The Grind Boxing.
Paddy at OTG wrote:Eddie and Oisin........words cannot describe how great this match was. It was also alot closer than the score cards suggested but I will let everyone make their own mind up when they see the fight next week. The fight was dedicated to Gatti before and they certainly did him proud.

Re: Fagan-Hyland this Saturday night
These Irish guys have grown on me, I must say. I never really liked Fagan, as I am a Spaddy fan and Fagan messed up his record on UD on all his opponents except the draw with Dorin and the split with Fagan. BUT LASTNIGHT- OH MY GOD... WHAT A FIGHT! I decided to get a Ryanair flight over on-spec for something to do and I'm so glad I did!
Warriors, both of them, but Fagan pressed the action all the way and even though I think Hyland was the more accurate, what the hell was 118-110 score? That's ridiculous. George Kimball had it 115-113, which he said resembled most scores from the press at ringside. What a battle though- toe-to-toe. Balls like a Bull Fagan has. Yeah- SETANTA IRELAND, Monday and Tues at 10pm is what I hear. One for the history books- great scrap.

Re: Fagan-Hyland this Saturday night
I'm new to these boards so hello lad's. Last nights fight is as good a place as any to make my first post so hear goes.
I'm Just home from this classic, What a fight!!! 12 rounds of intense action and a credit to the two lads.
I felt for oisin with those lop sided scorecards, i had it 116-114 to Hyland and tbh he didn't deserve to be on the wrong side of 118-111, That is just wrong.
Meeting George Kimball was also a real thrill and it was good to see he doesn't go for the hero worship routine instead preferring to talk about the action going on inside the ring, a real Gent!
