Talk about over valueing oneself! I thought Chesney Hawks just about closed the show on that angle in the songwriting world but the Calzaghe's have definately pulled the trump card on him.

Watch and weep Chesney

I'd love to have been a fly on the wall when they saw the finished product for the first time. I wonder what they were thinking? I'd have been hiding behind the settee cringing in embarrassment... In actual fact I was hiding behind the settee cringing in embarrassment just for watching it.

Brilliant, though I think the long awaited FULL version could be improved by having Enzo lowered from the ceiling on a rope, wearing a blonde mullet wig, while playing his guitar solo. As well as his uncle Vito on drums, they could have Gavin Rees playing a cow bell on stage too.

Joe Calzaghe to make a comeback in Howard Winstone biopic

Jul 29 2009 by Clare Hutchinson, South Wales Echo

BOXER Joe Calzaghe is to have his first taste of movie stardom in a biopic about Merthyr Tydfil boxing legend Howard Winstone.

Filming on Risen, by Merthyr-born director Neil Jones, is due to finish in the autumn after three years of preparation.

A source confirmed Calzaghe is in talks to play a boxer in the film, which will be released in Wales next year.

It will be Calzaghe’s first foray into acting.

The source said: “The film-makers approached Joe and he said ‘yes’, but he hasn’t signed anything yet.”

Former boxers John H Stracey and Richie Woodhall are already signed up, as is Swansea’s former WBO world cruiserweight champion Enzo Macarinelli, who plays Cardiff-born former European light heavyweight champion Eddie Avoth.

The lead role has been taken by Cardiff-based actor Stuart Brennan, who also helped pen the script.

Brennan reportedly lost two stone in weight to play the part of Winstone.

The so-called “Welsh Wizard” lost only six of 67 fights before retiring aged 29 in 1968.

The featherweight world title-holder’s success was made even more remarkable by the loss of the top of three fingers on his right hand in a factory accident early on in his career.

And the film has won the official backing of the World Boxing Association. Only two other films have been given this rare honour: The Hurricane starring Denzel Washington and Oscar-winning Million Dollar Baby starring Clint Eastwood and Hilary Swank.

News of Calzaghe’s acting debut comes after the Echo reported on Monday how the 37-year-old, his dad Enzo and uncles Sergio and Uccio recorded a song about his career.

The musical offering from Team Calzaghe, called Gonna Miss Him Now He’s Gone, is about Calzaghe’s journey from Cardiff Arms Park to Madison Square Garden.

The world champion boxer and former BBC Sports Personality of The Year announced his retirement from professional boxing in February.

Not really, I don't think any song of which the whole point is to "toot your own horn" is Brit awards material no matter who it is.

Froch should come out with a musical response of his own. I have seen him playing the guitar in features done on him so maybe he could take more of a singer/songwriter approach. He's gotta match Joe step for step
