Tyrone Booze run over by bin lorry...

Post by bennie »

Former WBO cruiserweight champion Tyrone Booze was injured last week when a bin lorry ran over him at work.
He's said to be in good condition in hospital.
Nice guy Tyrone works for the waste department of the city of Clearwater in Florida and was guiding the lorry out of a drive when he slipped and the back wheels ran over his left leg. The driver stopped when he heard Booze screaming, a police spokesman said.
No charges will be filed.
"The driver is very upset because they are old friends," said a spokeman for the city waste department. "It's just a horrible accident."
Though he wouldn't discuss Booze's injuries, he said he hopes the former boxer will be back to work in the near future.
"He is a very warm and friendly employee."
The 45-year-old Booze retired in 1998 after dropping a 10-round decision to Jesse Ferguson. He was known for his durability in a 16-year-career and went the distance with Evander Holyfield, Dwight Qawi, Bert Cooper and Eddie Mustafa Muhammad, among many others.
He was only stopped once: by South Africa's Johnny DuPlooy in Johannesburg.
He came to Manchester in 1992 and outlasted the previously unbeaten Derek Angol in seven rounds for the vacant WBO cruiserweight title. He defended in Germany with a points win over Ralf Rocchigiani before losing the title to Markus Bott, also in Germany.

Bennie - even by your standards of obscure but strangely interesting boxing stories, that takes the biscuit.

Hope the guys makes a full recovery, he was a decent fighter, I remember his fight with Derek Angol, I really thought Angol was going to win that one.

That story is rubbish.

Sorry, i thought i'd better beat Guest to it.

On a more serious note it makes you wonder how extensive his injuries are, if they won't be discussed.

I've heard of falling off the wagon and hitting the booze, but this is ridiculous.
